A bit of both. McEnelly is the real deal. Had a great redshirt season and has started this season extremely strong. Allred isn’t the same guy who beat Max multiple times and won Big 10’s as a freshman though. Not sure what happened but he has absolutely dropped off
Pinto and Allred aren't nearly what they were last year, in ordsr to shoehorn McDanel into the lineup. Classic 2 steps back, 1 step forward.

Tbis should be a cautionary tale for those who reshuffle our lineup eveey offseaaon, but probably won't be.

While Allred was tearing it up until PK pinned him, it was against weak competition. The highest ranked guy he wrestled was #30 and he won by decision.

Interesting profile picture of Allred vs last year @ 6:25, I wonder how much strength the cut took out of him.

Compared to last year, much thinner-as much as an already low body fat athlete can be-and his face looks really drawn. However, he took terrible shots in the match, almost no set up.

Anybody else amused at how confused Tim Johnson got during the Michigan/Maryland match about which team would win if the dual ended in a tie? He kept flip flopping back and forth and seemed to think Michigan won after the HWT match ended and the broadcast cut to PSU/MSU

How are Big 10 announcers not prepared with that information? I know the criteria has shifted around a bit over time but its pretty simple math if you're tracking the results of the matches.
The least you could do is have the list of criteria on the table in front of you for reference!

Not the most athletic guy either so moving down a weight makes that even more evident. Same has happened to Jaxon Smith. Insane that coaches still don’t get it.

Has there been any news regarding Alirez? They had 4 duals between Friday and Saturday and did not wrestle. Has not wrestled since middle of November. Was there any news he was hurt or something along those lines?

Very odd. He did take the mat and get a win by ff against CSU but didn’t wrestle any contested matches. Is that his way of getting match count up without wrestling?

Possibly he has a minor injury. Took the FFT to help towards the match count.

Funny story from high school. They would list the names of the wrestlers on a big board for each team before the dual. One of our cheerleaders says "Forfeit, that is a weird name". She was not a blonde.

Someone on a wrestling FB group (not Mineo) said there is disagreement between the Crookham family and the Lehigh coaches.
Family said he is done and medical red shirt. Coaches say he will be back before post season and will win NCAA’s.
I definitely do not know who the poster was and if they were just making it up.

Look at that, paragraph breaks for ease of reading….

Mineo breaks a lot of stories but is right only about half of the time......initial tweet that he will be out the year, is not true. Crookham injury report= Not accurate .

My source ( a Lehigh classmate at the Franklin & Marshal) called it a "tweak, baring a setback he FULLY 100% expects to wrestle this season

Mineo actually said the above in a comment to his initial post

Well if there is a legit debate, I suspect none knows and won't know for 3-4 weeks until he can go through healing then rehab to gauge the progress. We have been through that cycle several times and for every Nolf or Starocci, there's also a Surriano.

tOSU - Rutger first half was great. Several really great scrambles, especially in the Shawver-Bouzakis and Harer-Sasso matches. Sasso looks much stronger at 157 than 165, so Paddy may be getting a long overdue benching. I don’t know if tOSU fans are calling for Kilkeary over McCrone, but they should be if they’re not.

On talent and his career results, Sasso should beat Harer by a lot more than 3-2.

For his sake, hopefully he's still settling into the weight -- because his last 4 matches (all at 157) look like a bubble national qualifier. And I'd like to see him get a standing ovation 90 min from home.

He certainly doesn’t look like a title contender at any weight, but when Paddy was 157 and Sasso 165, both weights were a black hole. Sasso looks like a big improvement over Paddy at 157, but Birden just lost at 165, so there doesn’t appear to be a good solution. Kharchla looks like a tank at 174. No way he’s getting back down.

Harer wrestled a great match. He really stepped up in the spotlight.

Thru eight matches, Rutgers and Ohio Stste have split 4-4. Difference being an Ohio State tech by Mendez. 14-12.

Rutgers takes 197. Two AAs at HWT to decide the dual.

Great match between Poz and Shumate. Shumate had TDs waived off in both the first and second periods because he didn’t hold it past reaction time. Finally got it in the third then Poz got the short time escape and TD as time expired to win. Rutger up 15-14 heading into HWT (Feldman vs Slav). Mendez is the only bonus point match.

Rutgers fiving tOSU a good tussle. Poznansky beats Shumate on last minute TD.

Feldman vs Slavokouski decides it.

Wisconsin lost to Iowa 0-45 today. Their record is 4-5 on the season. I believe WISC renewed Chris Bono's contract last years for another 5 years. Makes you wonder if they want a do-over.

Bono has had very middle of the pack results since going to WISC in 2019. He went 9-7 last year and 8-8 in 2023. He had a very good season in 2022 (12-2) and a decent season in 2020 (11-6). Otherwise, not much happening in Madison.

Makes me wonder if schools like WISC will be eagerly looking for the some version of the next DT hire from Cael's coaching tree soon.

Feldman late 3rd period TD wins the dual for Ohio State 17-15. Mendez Tech was the difference. Many close matches. Good dual.

No shade at Beau. He’s capable, but Mendez is at a different level this year. It’s not impossible, but I would be shocked.
Besides, I believe karma is real and when Ryan announced to the world Jesse is just too skilled there he set karma in motion.
I don’t know if the bite in the ass will be delivered by an average official, a long bus ride or by something hidden under the weather but it will be delivered.

Mendez always looks better against the field. Case in point; the kid he teched today, Beau beat 4-1 last year.

So far, Bartlett has forced Jessie to wrestle Beau's kind of match. BB will always have a chance as long as he controls the pace.

Beau kinda beats everyone 4-1. Doesn’t seem a relevant comparison. OTOH the matches between them is….and it’s pretty even.

Feldman wins in a late TD. Great match. Great crowd at the Cavelli Center, and tons of great matches. I was rooting for Rutgers to pull it out, but they wrestled great anyway. 5-5 in matches, Mendez‘s bonus points were the difference.
It was a close and hard-fought dual meet, no question.

On the other hand, outside of Mendez at 141, I think anOSU had a grand total of 4 takedowns against Rutgers. Hopefully Bassett (who was in attendance at Covelli) took note of that.

I think Sasso may be the guy now at 157 but long overdue benching for a guy with only 3 losses on the season and multiple nationally ranked wins is interesting. On the 125 situation, why would they be calling for Kilkeary? He has 5 wins this season, only one against a nationally ranked guy and only one win by bonus. McCrone has a 60% bonus rate this year with 6 falls already.

I think their best lineup (especially considering RS) could be Sasso 157 and Gallagher 165, but I would not say Paddy was a Black Hole at 157 or that Sasso looks like a big improvement. Gallagher placed 4th at CKLV earlier this year. Sasso's best win at 157 is 3-2 over Harer who DNP at Midlands. Sasso also got tech-pinned by the only AA-level guy he faced at 157 in Arrington.

Yeah I don’t get where this idea has come from that Paddy has been horrific. The Kraisser result aside he’s been fine. But I wonder if they swap weights tbh

Agree with all the above.

McCrone is limited from neutral but can get bonus from top. He's done more and looked better than Kilkeary to date.

Gallagher is probably properly ranked around the #12 to #15 range at 157. He's not great but has shown flashes (including a win over Paniro Johnson at Cliff Keen), and is far from a black hole. He's not a good scrambler, and that's what cost him (twice) against Kraisser of Illinois.

Also agree that the best Brutus lineup might be Sasso at 157 and Gallagher at 165; can't imagine that true frosh Birden will stay in the lineup at 165. Maybe Hepner, if he's healthy??

We've watched Beau vs Jesse 4 times

Match 1 - Beau made the winning move in a 1-1 match
Match 2 - Jesse made the winning move in a 1-1 match
Match 3 - Beau made the winning move ... before Jesse turned it on him .... in a 1-1 match
Match 4 - Jesse made the winning move early and stopped taking risks after because he knows Beau is a masterful counter wrestler

My guess for Match 5 is it'll be close and come down to one winning exchange again!
