Other notable matches, results, news - 2024-25

I’m watching Rocco Welsh right now at F&M open. He’s wearing an Ohio State singlet. Doesn’t this mean he’s out of redshirt??
ANYONE?? This is pretty big news if so, and with as many knowledgeable people here, I figured someone would know the answer? Maybe got lost in thread?

Flo’s article listing the results from the finals says unattached for him.

I understand he was registered as “unattached,” but I am like 99% confident that if someone wrestles in the team singlet (which he did), your redshirt is burned.

Unless this rule changed this year, his redshirt is pulled

PS..I asked Basch and Willie yesterday on twitter..no response from either. I asked Kozak..he said he “thinks” the rule changed this year.

So nothing definitive

That would really, really suck if a technicality like that cost him a a year of eligibility (if his intent was to be unattached). I’d be willing to let that side with a warning or something.

Anybody else amused at how confused Tim Johnson got during the Michigan/Maryland match about which team would win if the dual ended in a tie? He kept flip flopping back and forth and seemed to think Michigan won after the HWT match ended and the broadcast cut to PSU/MSU

How are Big 10 announcers not prepared with that information? I know the criteria has shifted around a bit over time but its pretty simple math if you're tracking the results of the matches.

What is the current tie breaker criteria? Didn't it used to be first takedown?

Update..Willie just updated me on Twitter. Said rule changed and can now wear singlet.

Weird. I’ve seen guys still wrestling with non team uniforms in some of these tournies. (Example Cardenas from Stanford at SOldier Salute)

Can anyone remember such a poor sophomore slump as TJ Stewart this year? AA to 4-7. Pinned 3x and majored twice after getting pinned again tonight against NC
I don’t know what’s going on with him, but regardless of whether it’s physical, mental, or something else, it’s obvious that he needs some time off. It looked like he gave up vs Ryder and didn’t want to be there.

Maybe it happened accidentally on purpose? ;-) ;-) ;-)

The Crookham news really sucks. I pitched in college and later broke my elbow mountain biking, it was never the same, can't straighten it. I could wrestle though, no better than before. 6 months to 100% otherwise.

This seems to even out the impact of Gable coming back, from a team perspective, but I am still open to Kerk taking him out when it counts :)

At this point it's gotta be upstairs with him. Last night he took a dumb shortcut, the kind of thing you do when you're desperate. Tried to hit an elevator with an overhook instead of underhook. And the match was scoreless at that point, so WTF. Kane easily stuffed that for the pin.

Michigan is winning the dual if Ragusin weren't injured.

The dual will probably come down to HWT, Snacks vs Heindselman. Maryland will win 184, Michigan should win 165-174-197 with Cardenas likely getting bonus.
Looked up the records ...

Michigan bumped up backup 125 Wertanen to 133 to face Brown, and he got packed.

Wertanen this year lost 8-0 to Keanu Dillard. Yes, the Bethlehem Catholic junior. At 125.

What did Bormet think was gonna happen when he bumped Wertanen up to face a 2x NQ who was 12-1 going into the match?

With Ragusin out, 133 is a black hole for them. It was also sort of a phantom pin. Brown hit a cement mixer, but it didn’t look like both shoulders were ever flat when the pin was called. Brown was clearly in control, but even a tech instead of a pin changes the outcome (although in that case, I think Snacks tries a little harder to score, too, so who knows).

You sure you didn't misread the name?

Tim Johnson is easily confused, period.

Unless they changed the rule the rule is well known and doubtfully a missed technical violation.

When two teams finish in a tie in a dual meet or a team-advancement tournament, the following criteria shall be applied to determine a winner: a Greater number of victories Note: Forfeits, defaults and disqualifications count toward total number of victories. b Combined total number of falls, forfeits, defaults and disqualifications c Total match points scored only from decisions, major decisions and technical falls d Total near fall points scored only from decisions, major decisions and technical falls (Example: N-2 + N-3 + N-4 = Total of 9 near fall points scored for one team) e Total number of takedowns scored only from decisions, major decisions and technical falls (Example: T-3 + T-3 + T-3 = Total of 3 takedowns scored for one team) f Least number of unsportsmanlike conduct calls g First takedown scored in the dual meet

I'm not sure if this was posted elsewhere.
It sounds like Lehigh's Crookham is done for the year. He wrecked his elbow. I heard it late yesterday afternoon and tried to confirm it with someone that would probably know . Basically the insider said that it appears he's going to need surgery.
Tough break for Lehigh.

Taylor over Askey in SV. Askey had a single up in the air as time expired in regulation. Give Askey credit; he fought like hell to not give up the TD that won it for Taylor.

Wow. Huge danger TD by Minto in final secs over Sparks makes it 6-0 Nebraska. That one hurt.

9-0 Nebraska now. Minnesota had its chances at 157 and 165. Really needs this toss-up at 174.

Not only that but as he is saying it the huge score on the screen had Maryland winning lmfao

So McEnelly did an interesting move. In a scramble, Allred holding on to Max’s foot. Max grabbed his own foot and pulled it through till Allred couldn’t cling to it for a stalemate, and got the TD.

If I can find video of it in Twitter later, I will post. But I haven’t seen that before and it was very effective.
