Outside The Lines: "Could Michigan State have stopped Larry Nassar?" [JEMELE UPDATE]

They finally get around to asking the question that everyone not only asked, but assigned an answer to at Penn State when the Sandusky news broke.

A 14 month investigation you say...?

Hmm.

That's longer than the deep dive investigatory piece ESPN did on Second Mile.
Oh wait.

That's longer than the investigation into Second Mile that was conducted by our state attorney general.
Oh wait.

That's longer than Lynne "One Tough Cookie" Abraham's investigation into Second Mile.
Oh wait.

That's longer than Sara Ganim's investigation in the kids charity in the Patriot-News' own backyard.
Oh wait......that never happened either.

Larry Nassar's problem is that he didn't wear swim trunks when he was treating these girls.

How they answer that question will be interesting given the fact MSU administrators received contemporaneous first hand victim complaints over the course of many years. Said victims were then told they didn't understand the magical therapeutic techniques employed by the esteemed doctor. If the victims didn't buy that they were then told to keep quiet or else they would be punished.

The Nasser scandal is a disgusting shame, but with no national figure there is no national attention. PSU made this about Joe when they waited until Primetime to fire him for the world to see on national TV. From then on it was barely ever about Jerry, it was about football and PSU.....not sexual abuse and the victims. Many of us called this when the Nasser story broke, it won't get but 10% of the attention because there is no national figure to disgrace.....just a f--ked up Doctor who is a serial predator. Thankfully these girls won't have a group of people or a nutjob on the left coast attacking their childhoods and upbringing and calling them all liars.

Here... we... goooo...

JANE REMEMBERS THE linoleum floor in the bathroom of Larry Nassar's apartment. She remembers feeling strange as he walked in and handed her gymnastics magazines to read as she lay fully naked in his bath tub. She was 12 or 13; she can't recall exactly.

Nassar, no older than 30 and putting the finishing touches on his medical degree, had called Jane's mother days before, explaining he was doing research about gymnasts' flexibility and wanted her daughter's help. On the day Jane was to participate, her mother was out of town, so a neighbor dropped her off, alone, at Nassar's one-bedroom apartment a few blocks from the Michigan State University campus. Once inside, Nassar had Jane do splits on his living room floor..."

@ChiTownLion I just read this story.

It has made me physically ill. This just gets worse and worse with every new interview.

The worst part of this all - no national media attention until winning Olympic women were part of the story.

The Nice Guy Larry Nassar Asteroid was poised to hit the Mid-Michigan community - it was out there circling for years. I still maintain that had Louis Freeh simply acted ethically, honestly and in search of the truth - he would have used his national platform to educate back in 2012. Perhaps some of these girls would have recognized what the hell was going on with them years earlier.

I hope Mark Emmert and Jim Delany are happy with themselves. Now would be a good time for Dr. Lou Anna "Pretty Pervasive" Simon to pick up that phone and personally apologize to Graham Spanier, Tim Curley, Gary Schultz, Sue Paterno and their families.

Everyone deserved better.

Check out the live stream...

I challenge the trolls here to watch this LiveStream and continue to go on with their Football Crazed Child Rape Enabling JoeBot bullshit.

The sports media had a hand in this, as did the likes of these BWI house guests and the PennLive comment section trolls.

I have to applaud these young women speaking out today. For these #JoeKnew trolls to continue with their bullshit is even more of a slap in the face to these women and their families.

after reading that article, the sad part about all of this is that there were SO many opportunities for people to stop this monster. But he was good at what he did. He worked for YEARS to perfect his craft, to the point where parents were being manipulated into not believing their kids when they told them. And again, so many people were in position to stop him but didn't.

Look, I agree that emmert is a complete tool but I think we've blown WELL past the NCAA here. if MSU and USA gymnastics isn't bankrupted by all of this, something is wrong.

Wendy, I like what you're doing with John Barr. More pressure needs to be put on the media to put this out there more. We're talking the same "breaking news" cut-ins that happened with Sandusky. It's clear that people, TO INCLUDE PARENTS, need to be educated on how monsters like this can manipulate kids and their parents alike.

This is seriously disgusting....

From article:
"Now that so much of the Nassar tragedy has been exposed, a lingering question remains: Were each of those enablers complicit or simply conned by a man described as a master manipulator?"

This could have just as easily been written about Sandusky. Are we learning anything?

But..but...but Sara Ganim has assured us "the system is safer".

She has a shiny Pulitzer to prove that, AND she's a consultant in a movie!

To think a crummy newspaper out of Mechanicsburg, PA - that has always had a hard-on for Penn State - was able to lead the media horde off into another direction, and not properly report on what was actually going on in their own back yard.

This is on The Harrisburg Patriot-News too. They valued that shiny trophy and web hits/clicks - over actually educating their audience.

Note that espn’s take is that nassar groomed the michigan state community. Why isn’t espn OUTRAGED. about a cover-up at michigan state that put women’s gymnastics above all human decency?

espn owes the Paterno family and Penn State a lengthy and humbling apology as the lead on this evening’s sportscenter and online.

100%. Sadly though, this is what "journalism" is today. All you have to do is go to newsweek or yahoo (if you're left-leaning) or the WSJ/Breitbart (if you're right-leaning) and you'll see journalism at its finest. Nothing is fact checked, and everything is sensationalized for click bait. If I paid attention to any of that, Trump would be getting impeached for (pick your poison) and Clinton would be in prison for (again, pick your poison).

I'd like to also comment on the fact that the Nassar hearings are not a media circus.

These women are treated with respect and there is decorum inside and outside the building. I don't see a "PedoBear" dancing around outside, or anyone cheering on from the sidelines or reporters breathlessly rushing down a set of steps to shout in front of a TV camera.

Clearly the crowd that followed the Sandusky case was only motived because of "football" and only interested in the "football" aspect.

Another slap in the face to Larry Nassar's victims.

No one has ever been jealous of MSU... that's the difference.

Even more of a slap in the face to these women and girls.

So a crummy sports rivalry is more important?

I'd like the BWI house guests that are constantly on with their "Joe Knew" "Tim Curley failed" "they knew about CSA" "they lied" to please explain that one to me.

I'd also like those same BWI house guests to frame their same argument about Penn State's "failures" over a singular incident of Mr. "will u drop your mouth on it" MMQ and his "slapping sounds" and apply that same argument to Michigan State where woman complaining directly to MSU leadership about a guy getting aroused while massaging her breasts and vagina.

I'll wait.

Wensilver, you are on a tear today and I like it.
