District duals going on now. A couple interesting individual results so far:

Gerrit Nijenhuis bumped up to 195 to take on Max Shaw. Shaw won 2-1 TB.

Alejandro Herrera bumped up to 120 and beat Kurt Phipps 6-0. Last year they split 1-0 decisions, with Herrera's win in UTB. Looks like he's widening the gap.

Alejandro is the man.

Gerrit weighed in on descent to 170 at ETR, so I would guess he's probably giving up 20 pounds in that match to Shaw.

In District 11, the 3A semifinal that should be good is the BECA -Northampton match. The winner will get Liberty who went udeafeated in the league and had a 17-2 record . Their only losses were close bouts to St.Augustine Prep and Nazareth by criteria at Virginia Duals.
I think Liberty will win the District duals but Beca will win the District individual tournament.
I think the same scenario will take place In 2A. Saucon should win team duals but keep an eye on Notre Dame Green Pond in year end individual tournament.

Just checked results from last night here in the Lehigh Valley.
All the top seeds won big with the exception #5 Nazareth beat #4 Stroudsburg.
Nazareth got Nathan Stefanik back in lineup after breaking ankle Dec 13.
The 2 semifinals should be great.
Northampton vs Beca
Nazareth vs Liberty
Keep in mind Nazareth and Liberty have split this year already.

Re: Herrera

Dare I say Press of a Full Court nature?

IMO yes but ultimately that's a question for our lead recruiter @smalls103

Should also note, a few weeks ago Herrera bumped up to 120 and beat returning state champ Beau Bayless from Reynolds, who's committed to Hahvahd.

Captain Obvious says Herrera is having a decent year, between the wins over McHenry and Decatur and Miller and Phipps and Bayless and Mendez and Delaney and Burkholder and Solomon, and only the 1 pt loss to Richie Figs ...

Burrell with 13 straight in WPIAL AA. Ridiculous that they don’t go up to AAA and take their lumps.

AA WPIAL is not even comparable to AAA WPIAL. Burrell is usually tough but no depth after that.

Western PA is weird like that because AAA D10 has no depth but AA D10 is loaded.

Is Herrera going to grow do you think or will he be a 125 in college? Seems like he is tall and could really fill out. Any guesses?

No idea but he looks quite a bit taller than last year.

BECA just beat Liberty in District 11 finals 34-22.
BECA will probably meet Kiski in finals.
District 11 pretty deep this year both AAA and AA

An inexact science predicting that sort of thing...recall David Taylor won 2 Ohio state titles at 103, and 1 at 112, before going 135 his senior year in high school, and we know the rest.

Karam has a way of turning things to Gold , (recruiting comments to follow )

In District 11 AA Saucon Valley edged Notre Dame Green Pond 36-35. Came down to last bout and kid from Saucon was on his back but fought out of it to save the victory.
Keep an eye on Notre Dame in year end tournament. They have 3-4 really good kids and should do pretty well out Hershey.
It's going to be interesting as the Notre Dame program developes, does it impact the BECA talent base. The schools are only 5 miles apart.

Yes, ND beat out Beca for the “rights” to Crookham

If it does impact BECA , we could see the scenario the BECA opts to go back down to AA and the 2 private schools would go head to head at the year-end tournaments.

ND would need Huge progress to challenge Beca, that’s not a fair fight now, at least not for a few years

I would think it would be be more BECA coming back down to the pack by losing a few kids to ND. They would have to decide I they want to to be big dog at AA or maybe top 5 in AAA for state competition.
The one thing that would add to the situation are the new transfer rules the PIAA created. It's harder to go public school to public school but a kid can transfer easier to private school.
The other dynamic situation is the consideration that the Allentown Catholic Disocese has tabled the thought of potentially closing BECA and expanding the Notre Dame complex. This thought was considered a few years ago. With some more pending priest litigation the Church might have to do some cost cutting. This could be years from now.

My nephew is part of a team heading to states for the first time in school history (selinsgrove) and its just a ton of fun for the community. If any of you guys are down there let a guy know. Maybe we can meet up at Troegs or the my favorite hershey dive bar behind the park for a quick discussion.

SC set a record for being the first AA D4 team to win the D4 title 3 times in a row in smacking down Muncy.

Their bracket sets up well to the finals. But I still think Reynolds get them again.

I just went on PCN website and discovered they no longer have team and individual TV championship rights.
The PIAA should be ashamed of it's sell out to FLO.
I know a lot of seniors that love wrestling but now will not be able to watch it because of cost and/or technology needed.
As Michael Douglas,"Greed is good"
I tend to think not for probably 25% of the audience.

Personally i think it should have been simulcasted just like Flo does with the BTN matches

It would have been nice if PCN was also able to still show the finals, but, I'm not sure if that is a realistic option.

I feel bad for those that will now be missing out, but, having the event on FLO has many advantages. Now, every match will be shown live, tracked and able to be replayed, not just the finals. Also, FLO is covering every match at the state duals, again live, tracked and able to be replayed. It is all now available to everyone who is willing to pay for it, from anywhere in the country. (Those with satellite weren't getting PCN)

FLO takes a lot of hits, but, as a wrestling diehard, I absolutely love what FLO has done. I remember when I had to search message boards and newspapers, just trying to find results. Now, I can watch a ton of wrestling, any time I want to. If I'm not available to watch live, I can watch it later. FLO is beyond worth the yearly fee for me.

Starocci with a 19-6 victory in the round of 16 vs Joey Milano of Spring Ford, who had just 1 loss coming into the match.

Would love to know what a linguist would say, but I always suspected "states" or for that matter "districts" or "sectionals" is a hyper-contraction of "State Championships" etc. No doubt about it though--that's how we handle it here, and to ear it without the s sounds Canadian or something.
