Parker Washington should have returned this year.

New QB who he does not have chemistry with, risk of injury, offense that will spread the ball around and limit big time gaudy stats. I think he made the right business choice. He was probably just done with college ball. Hopefully he goes no later than 6th round but at a minimum just get drafted.
Being a UDFA isn't the worst thing either because you pick where you get a shot. I'm sure everyone wants to get drafted but all you need is a chance.

I would have loved to have had him back in '23. Don't mistake my comment for anything else. I just can understand. High or low or undrafted.
And, not you, but that's what this is really about with many of the people criticizing his decision. Selfishly they wanted him to return. He was ready to move on.

I wouldn't say he has or hasn't peaked, but he's a smooth slot WR type. He's going to run good routes and make contested catches, but he's never going to be an elite combine guy no matter the prep work he does.

Without knowing his injury, it's additionally tougher to prognosticate much.

He came to PSU physically ready to contribute and fairly polished. He may have thought that he had already peaked. Or maybe he is afraid that the injury doesn't allow him to return to 100%. That turned out to be the case with Mustipher it seemed.

I think PJ ends up being a stud in another year or 2. I'm not sure what his route will be (drafted, UDFA, 2nd tier football league) but I think he just needs time to regain the strength he lost.
Some is strength and some could be confidence. It does seem like sometimes these guys need a bit before they completely trust the recovery from the injury. You can't play DT tentative. Not sure if that was a part of it but for some it is.

It wasn't illogical at all. Look at all the kids that made similar decisions. You have no idea it even cost him a spot let alone 3-5 rounds.
He is hurt currently (that hurts his draft status), he has been hurt so he could not test (that hurts his draft status), you basically have to believe in unicorns to not believe this hurt his draft status since it would hurt any player's draft status with the exception a generational QB prospect....

The reality his the posters who want Washington back dont care about what is best for Washington or any other player. They only care about winning. Success on the field and forget Honor.

Who says he's healthy next year?
Lots of guys in this draft are hurt with no impact. The draft is always about whether a team likes you. See Bennett and O'Connell going in the 4th. See Juice and Strange going in the 2nd. To think it's ever a mistake to enter isn't accepting the draft and the league today

Please, those that don't care about Washington and other PSU players are the ones who are good with these kids going early when it is clearly against their best interests in terms of draft position and future earnings potential. The bottom line is that Washington likely lost a good bit of money by wanting it this year when so much was going against him. If he could have just been a little more patient, he'd have a much better shot at sticking in the NFL and earning a higher early payday.

You have literally no idea if he lost even a penny. The other poster is correct--you and others only care about kids while they're here--see the nonsense towards those that have left.

I mostly care about kids when they're at PSU because that's my team. Should I feel bad about that?

I like to see PSU kids do well at the next level but I'm more concerned about current players.

Right--because you don't care about the players--just the program. Which is fine and is what I've been saying. I follow the kids throughout their careers at Penn State and beyond--whether they transfer or not. No right or wrong but people need to stop claiming they care about the kids when they don't.

He lost a few mil but ok. Most kids can never make up that lost money if they never get another nfl contract.
Can't prove he lost a few million. You have no idea what happens if he comes back. None. He might got 3/4 or he might go undrafted. Returning doesn't always help you. Ask Bryce Love for starters.

He was the only one who made a dumb decision by going pro. Hence the only thread about a PSU player who shouldnt have gone pro.
Wasn't dumb at all
He was drafted
Your problem is your bias against a 5th round QB makes you believe Allar would somehow make him better when he is who he is

Only 2 tds, 1-100 yard game. Cant even participate in pro days? Just a bad decision all-around. Especially with our lack of options and our new QB. He would have killed it. Have to bet on yourself at some point.
Again...you're making assumptions. And he did bet on himself. He's looking at the second contract which is the one that matters.

Second contract?

He'll probably get a guaranteed $300k signing bonus and a $3 million 4 year contract that only pays if he makes the team. I think he should be more worried about hanging around for 3 years before worrying about his 2nd contract.

The second contact is were the money is at if someone is talking about betting on "yourself" that's the bet being made. Parker was never going to be a day 1 guy in any universe

It clearly wasn't--he was drafted and can start his career on a team he has a great opportunity not only to make but contribute.
There are slot receivers with his measurable that do plenty of damage to defenses. He's got quick feet, tremendous hands and can break tackles. No 4.5 forty necessary to thrive if he's used correctly.

Just based on Parker's actual draft slot, I think proves what those have been saying that he made a mistake leaving early. Most experts say that leaving early for that late in the draft is a big mistake. Feel bad for him, he seems to have made it a little harder on himself.

Lol the experts don't say that
The draft slot proves he was right for moving on

He should have stayed for sure with a young gunslinger at qb, best PSU OL since the 90’s, and best rb tandem in all of cfb. The offense will be dynamite and PW could have had a great season punching his ticket into the 1st or 2nd round in 2024.

Anyone that understands he wanted to move on with his career and play in the NFL does...this is his dream and he achieved it. Now he'll work towards the second contract which is the deal that matters.
The second contract argument is silly too. He has to make the team to cash in on an $800k/yr contract. Then he has to stick with the team for 3 years before he can negotiate for a 5th year. Looking forward to a second contract at this point is putting the cart before the horse.

Players taken in the sixth and seventh-rounds have the toughest time to earn a roster spot. Their odds can fall as low as having a 30-35% chance of making a team.

I'm not saying he made a good or bad decision but claiming that a 6th round pick proves he made the right decision is silly.
How? He wanted to play in the NFL and was drafted. He was ready to move on. Where's the mistake? Because you think he should have returned without any guarantee of his stock changing and delaying starting his career a year? He was drafted...mission accomplished.

He has no chance to ever be a 1st round pick let alone a second. Look at the WRs in next year's class. This class was considered weak. And who says Allar is good let alone great in year 1. Plus two elite RBs likely limits his touches.
