Pat Chambers isn't going anywhere

They're freshmen. They're freshmen? What freshmen team ever carried Penn State to a NCAA Tournament? Which one?

The last 2 NCAA Tournament teams I remember were senior dominated and the team finished in dead last place the following year.

Dunn and Ed never established Penn State anywhere in recruiting and by the time their teams had success it was the last second and too late to capitalize off the success in recruiting.

If these guys can get over the hump in the next couple years with the foundation that has been laid in recruiting, the ability to sustain success is there.

You want to blow this up when these guys are freshmen to start ALL OVER again with some coach who is currently at Stony Brook? Why would anyone ever do that?

BTW: The NIT gives bids to 1 bid leagues whose regular season champ doesn't win the conference tournament. It's way harder to make the NIT now than it was during the Dunn and Ed era's. Those teams steal bids.

Pat Chambers just played a non conference schedule that we would rarely if ever play in the past. If Pat had loaded up on all garbage to inflate his record before conference play we could easily have 15 or 16 wins right now.

I'm sorry, I have yet to hear one compelling argument to blow up the foundation Chambers is trying to build that also came with a realistic solution. How long he's already been here when Dechellis left the cupboard almost completely bare is literally the worse argument.

You guys offer no solutions. It takes no ability to point to the record and say make a change.
Blaming DeChellis at this point is a pretty lame argument as well. It's been six years. If you take a job as a coach thinking you can't make improvements after six years, you probably shouldn't take the job. I guarantee Chambers gave himself a shorter timeline to be successful than what he's on right now, so he's probably disappointed in his results as well, so why shouldn't fans be disappointed?

Time for bed.

There is zero catalyst for change. Zero. Sandy Barbour isn't making a change if all the noise she is hearing about the program is from anonymous message board posters who have no ability to offer an alternative solution.

If you fire Pat Chambers when this young core is in their freshmen and sophomore years Penn State will get laughed out of Philadelphia and the DMV if they try recruiting there with a new staff. Penn State would have completely destroyed the trust of the people that need to trust you. These kids didn't have to take a chance on Penn State and then you are going to fire their coach? You might as well take a crap on their head. It would be the same thing.

Some of you are so lost. There are so many things that you aren't taking into consideration.

Firing Pat Chambers after Tony and Lamar's freshmen year would be the equivalent of committing program suicide.

We'd be back to recruiting Montana.
So we're held hostage for the next four years because we might damage our Philly connection that's led to a .500 record? Well, that would be a shame.

That's a good question. After this season, Chambers has two left on his contract. Ordinarily, this coming off-season is when the future is decided. Will be interesting to see what Screwface does.

Seriously, does it matter whether PC stays or goes? You have to go back 21 years to find a coach (Parkhill) with a career winning record and back 33 years to find a coach (Harter) that had a career winning conference record and that was the A10. If you could find a way to clone the best parts of John Wooden, Dean Smith, Coach K, Bobby Knight and Adolph Rupp the resultant individual couldn't consistently win at PSU. No history + crappy home court + admin that doesn't care about hoops = lower your expectations.

Ask Northwestern.

Obviously won't happen, but it would be interesting to see what Chris Collins could do with this team. It would go a long way to answer the question about talent vs. coaching impacts. It will be interesting to watch if Collins can sustain his recent success. If so, I would suspect quite a few schools out there would be knocking loudly (if they aren't already).

Aka the Cleveland Browns how well it works to have a never ending rotation of coaches.

This conversation is about 1-2 years too early.

So, he gets 9 years to turn this around? I understand 6 years but I don't understand any coaching getting a free pass in years 7 & 8. No one is even asking to win the Big Ten or anything crazy. It's ridiculous how bad they still are.

As I said a few months ago. This team will win a few games they shouldn't and lose a few games they shouldn't. They are young. They need to learn to play as a team. Need to learn how to win.

Good win tonight. I think Chambers has them on right track and the talent is improving.

In 1954 team list to KY in final four. Most of team came back Rec Hall would be sold out for wrestling gymnastics BB came on floor half the crowd left.
BB has always been a tough sell at State.
Now with all the events going on it is an even tougher sell.
Check out the schedule of events on any week ad some time for studies factor in cost of tickets you understand empty seats.

Wrestling is sold out to non students. There is not that kind of local support for BB.
It will take an unusually good team to produce fan support.

Why does PSU charge more than 1 dollar for a student to go to a game if there isn't enough fan support?

I expect she will hire an expensive consulting team to help her make a decision.

They'd be the 9 seed in the Big Ten Tournament if the season ended today, which I wouldn't consider bad given this program's history. This team is just a 3-3 finish down the stretch here from the most Big Ten wins since 2010-11.

This young team has three legitimately horrible losses (George Mason, Albany, Rutgers). They've countered that with some high quality wins too. Let a young team work through it.
