Interesting case here. No facts uncovered, but we will suspend our coach for 2 weeks when there are no practices or games. I guess the biggest punishment is no more preseason camp at their off-campus facility?

"The investigation did not uncover evidence pointing to specific misconduct by any individual football player or coach, participation in or knowledge of the hazing activities was widespread across football players," the summary reads.

Nice to read the Northwestern President’s strong stance and statement on this matter.

Fitzgerald must have confused a Frat house with a football team. The suspension was warranted.

Not a good look for NU and Pat. I've always considered him to be a top 10 coach considering he's done more with less

What warranted the suspension? I am not familiar with the investigation, but from the only article I've seen (linked above), nothing was uncovered.

Just a wild hairy ass guess on my part. But Fitz is a legend for many people at NW, and probably not the most easily fired coach in football. Perhaps by pouncing on this incident it’s the opening salvo in what will be a campaign to replace him by people advocating a change. This could be interesting as I believe he has a lifetime plus 200 years contract with NW.

If recent history has taught us anything, it’s that any coach can be fired. Fitzgerald’s contract does not protect him from being fired. It only guarantees a certain amount of compensation.

Unfortunately for Fitzgerald, the Northwestern President believes otherwise.

so an anonymous person said there was hazing, yet they couldn't identify what player(s) did it or what coaches knew? Doesn't sound like a very thorough investigation. Try harder!

Seems to me that Fitz is taking the bullet, knowing he is superman at NW, and they are trying to get this to go away pronto. "see, we self-assessed and punished so all is good. Right? RIGHT?"

Ah the anonymous whistle blower. Pretty arbitrary. Sometimes it sticks and other times it does not. Looks like it stuck this time, but then his name is Pat not...... never mind - wrong board.

No facts uncovered? No. No facts given to the public. Since the start they have been very vague and have given little or no info. What was the hazing? Who participated?

Who knows? They swept all the details under the rug.

Or he is guilty and the school is not telling us everything. Do you really believe they found nothing and are suspending the coach without pay???

Could be but it really isn't "not telling us". They told us and said that they couldn't find any individuals. So if they did, it is a lie and not just hiding things.

I suspect that they just didn't really look that hard. They are sacrificing the HC for a couple of months hoping it will just go away. there is nobody else in the program to suspend that would make this go away. And what is a suspension anyway? God invented Zoom and Facetime just for this purpose.

Well you have to admit stranger things than this have happened. Both here and elsewhere.

yes, I do.

Just another do gooder group that believes every hint of possible behavior needs to have consequences, and someone to blame. Except for their own mistakes in dealing with things.

If I was a NW grad I'd be about as happy about this as I actually was when they took down Joe's statue. And still am.

Northwestern is notorious for covering up scandal to attempt to protect their reputation.

This is not an opinion since you know nothing about what happened. Just you speaking bullshit per usual.

Look, I don’t know what is happening in your personal life to cause you to post in such a disrespectful manner. I’ll assume positive intent and you just needed to blow off some steam because you are having a tough day.

On the other hand, if this your typical board behavior I know to ignore all your future posts until you grow up and can act like a civilized human being.

Have a nice day and best of luck addressing your personal issues. I feel sorry for you.

No personal issues--I just don't tolerate your nonsense. You stated something as a fact "The suspension was warranted" when you know nothing about what occurred then tried to state "I simply stated my opinion" which is nonsense. Own what you do. Feel sorry for yourself if you want to feel sorry for anyone.

Never understood why people ride this guy's jock.
Well let's see....As a college player, he won about every award a linebacker can , most of them twice. He's a college Hall of Fame player. He also won the Big Ten Medal of Honor for Academic and Athletic excellence. After college his former D coordinator brought him to Maryland (Vanderlinden). Next his former Head Coach (Barnett) hired him at Colorado. He's the longest tenured HC in FBS. All this making it clear....he's not the kind of guy you want to keep around! Yep, he just doesn't measure up to the high standards of the elite types that post here.

One clarification. Kirk Ferentz has significantly more HC experience at the FBS level.

He's at Northwestern where success is basically unheard of. No one is saying he's Kirby Smart, Nick Saban or Joe Paterno but Northwestern could never do better. The reality is as long as he stays at Northwestern its impossible to say just how good he is. Would have liked to see him with the Bears or ND but he's content with being at Northwestern. Not sure why anyone doesn't comprehend this.

Fitzgerald suspended after Northwestern inquiry

Northwestern is implementing several measures to curb hazing within its football program, including a two-week suspension of coach Pat Fitzgerald after an investigation found evidence to support a claim of problematic conduct.

Literally every coach in the country could be suspended for that as he had no knowledge or evidence of anything happening. It's odd anyone here supports it. Just speaks to their agenda.

1-11, .375 bowl win %, and barely .500 coach.

Most of the achievements you listed were as a player or assistant not as a head coach. You did not list his head coaching numbers for a reason.

He coaches at Northwestern. Any fool knows that it has never been a destination job. That's the reason ...Now be a bigger chump and tell me Nick Saban would win titles there. LOL

“The Daily Northwestern article also mentioned other allegations of hazing rituals, including the practice where freshmen had to duplicate a snap from the center to the quarterback while both players were naked. It also cited a second player who noted the existence of the ritual.”

“If a player was selected for “running,” the player who spoke to The Daily said, they would be restrained by a group of 8-10 upperclassmen dressed in various “Purge-like” masks, who would then begin “dry-humping” the victim in a dark locker room.”

Dry humping freshmen isn’t good…

Do you think bama would keep a 1-11 coach?

No but Northwestern isn't Alabama
Your inability to acknowledge Pat's success is dumbfounded. They're going to have bad seasons...he gives them the occasional good season. And citing his bowl record is laughable. The fact he is ever bowl eligible ruins your argument. Winning or losing a bowl game is meaningless. It's a scrimmage
