PDF page 69 starts the john doe 150, "I told Joe" testimony..

Fortunately it doesn't look like this news is going to be a huge media firestorm. Between Sanders' endorsement in mainstream news and the All Star game, this is largely getting back page treatment.

Just my thoughts:

You can't go by these documents alone if you truly are trying to be objective. The depositions are discovery depositions and they are chopped in this setting for selective information to be presented. Attorneys do it all the time and the Court routinely asks for the complete copy of the transcript to be filed so it can get a total view of the situation. Proceed with caution on any judgment you may make as there is a reason you are only seeing certain things.

Keep in mind the plaintiffs have the burden of proving that PSU knew or at least should have known about Jerry; this is what makes PSU negligent. However, if the plaintiff prevailed on their claim there would be no insurance coverage for PSU. Plaintiffs never want to defeat coverage as they would likely get nothing at the end of the day. In this case, PSU is so huge that even without insurance a plaintiff could recover a judgment. Therefore the plaintiffs went after PSU without fear and the deponents were likely told to tie as much PSU knowledge as possible into their testimony. Some told the truth and stopped, others probably got creative with it and started throwing in coaches, players, and admins.

That's correct. in depositions, there are no cross examinations. They are simply probes to see what the claims are.

LOL

Do you think they'd send the whole team there themselves?
its the night before the game, not after the game. Before the game the coach has plenty of control, you would hope the players would take this stuff seriously. Most places the HC would check them in, maybe with help from another administrator etc. It gives the HC time to talk to each of his guys the night before the game and spend some time with them. Most places only the top 44 or so would stay, you know the guys that actually played. And no matter when all of the other assistant coaches would be on the road recruiting. Maybe PSU did it differently, but that's been my experience. No big deal, just surprised, and maybe that's why JS was never going to be considered as HC, spending too much time with TSM.

And I believe the memorial service today is for the police officers in Dallas with Obama and Bush speaking so that will flood the headline news wires shortly as well.

So far both morning radio shows on WILK this morning didn't touch the subject. I’m sure the voice of WILK and idiot extraordinaire, Steve Corbett, will be all over Joe later today, as he was when the first of the 1971 accusers hit the paper a month or so ago.

Two things:

1. So Doe 150 says that Joe's response to his tale of woe was to say "I don't wanna hear about it, I've got a football team to run." LOL. How much more over the top can you get? I'm surprised he didn't report that Joe offered to give him the same treatment. Just a laughable account.

2. So let me get this straight. The company (PMA) that is defending the University's insurance reimbursement claims by dragging Joe (and the University) through the mud all over again is the same company that appoints a significant percentage of the University's Board of Trustees? Only in Pennsylvania....

Deadspin.com has two stories on it....

I sure hope that Bradley and Schiano come out quickly with statements publicly rebutting this Doe 150's claims. I cannot see why they would not do so.

Paterno F'ed this up from the start. He let his moron son Scott do the talking. A lawyer or PR guy could have simply said, "Joe has ALWAYS encouraged any victim or witness of any crime to go to the police." It would be tough for anyone to dispute the claim. At that point Joe would have been covered if a kid from 70s or the day after Joe was born told him. The only people we definitely know knew about the abuse were the victims. It was up to them to go to the police.

Congrats! You just topped your previous most stupid post. Aim high and you can be the next Black Elmo2 or John Zipay.

Schiano already has issued a statement .... "I never witnessed or had reason to believe any type of abuse was going on at PSU during my time there..."

Yeah? Go read the comment section on any story about this mess. PATERNO is getting killed again. Thank you, Ira.

Comment section?

Pitt assholes and other imbeciles.

No Paterno killing from those turds.
hey Mike Florio who writes www.profootballtalk.com and is a lawyer by trade, just took this story hook, line and sinker. From what he writes, I know he has put a lawyers eyes on the docs. But he is a WVU homer, and just wanted to trash JVP, and he had plenty of ammunition to do so.

Or listen to Pittsburgh talk radio. Chris Mueller spewing his usual line of shit. He's thrilled.

What is there to be "thrilled over"? Unless you're an imbecile.

Nothing to see except for idiots.
Well, he is indeed an idiot. Unfortunately, so are the rest of the media as well as the large majority of the American public. For those holding out hope that the real truth will ever be revealed, or that if it is it will be properly reported, can pretty much give it up. No way it's ever going to happen. And we know who we have to thank for that.

I guess....?

After reading all this - I am simply gobsmacked that not a single lawyer involved with this said "HOLD THE PHONE - WHY THE HELL ISN'T ANYONE FROM SECOND MILE & CYS FILLING IN THE BLANKS HERE?!"

Um, the story is bullshit. Why should Penn State or CYS or anyone be on the hook for something that didn't happen?

Actually - Dr. Jack Raykovitz F'ed this up from the start. He let his moron board members Heim & Poole do the talking. Any responsible child welfare professional from the Second Mile could have simply said, "We have practiced responsible oversight of ALL our adults that work with children, especially Jerry. In fact, we have meticulously kept records in our offices of ALL contact with minors so we could expressly maintain such vigilant oversight". It would be tough for anyone to dispute the claim. At that point Joe, or anyone accused, would have been covered if a kid from (the) 70's or the day after Joe was born told him. The only people we definitely know knew about the abuse were the claimants. It was up to them to go to the police.
Candidly the problem with this approach is making the assumption that Jerry had a boss at TSM. He didn't. It was his organization, he started it and he reported to NO ONE. Everything else is just noise. We need to get to a point where we all agree that at no point in Jerry's time at the TSM was he under anyone or supervised because Jerry was the TSM

The tool didnt bring it up today....his usual method of operation is to let the media print a truckload of stories. Those will be in the local papers tomorrow....he will then regurgitate them verbatim tomorrow to make it look like he knows what he is talking about.....if you call in and ask him if he read the actual deposition, he will cut you off....like i said...the guy is a true POS! And a PSU grad..

All i know is that anyone who takes the 20 minutes to read this depo...and doesn't say it's a crock...is a fulltime jackass...how i wish i went to a PSU football camp back in the 70's...

There is not a shred of believability in the entire thing. It's actually maddening to read it and think that there is an entire legion of people out there who won't read a word of it, and believe it's true.

Especially the part where John Doe denies telling ANYONE, ANYONE other than Paterno of the abuse. No parents. No teachers. No siblings. No friends. No doctors. Nobody. Just Joe.

Unreal.

Statement from Kevin O'Dea:

"The anonymous allegation that I knew, heard or had information in 1988, or at any other time for that matter, of the behavior of Jerry Sandusky is a complete fabrication," O'Dea said in a statement. "To be clear, in 1988, I was not employed, interning, working or in any way associated with Penn State."

BOOM.

So they settled with a guy who implicated a coach who wasn't even working at PSU at the time?
What I've read on other boards from people wanting this all to be true is a rationalization that the alleged victims testimony is credible, but that he just got the year wrong. And, they want logically thinking people to really believe that, too.
