Wrestling Penn State Adds Commitments Form Connor And Cole Mirasola

Perdue offered him as well.
Wait until CJF conspires with Cael to offer him a football scholarship at Penn State. Then watch the action on HR...

Not sure Barraclough is in the mix. What about Kasak? Has there ever been an indication that Carter and Brooks are moving up? Their current weights don’t seem to be an issue. Wouldn’t be surprised if transfers arrive for 25, 33 and/or 97 next year. Hoping Howard is good to go, though.
Kasak wrestled 141 most of this year (did go 149 at the Edinboro Open). Unless he starts growing, he's not in the 157 mix ... though he could be 149 if Van Ness moves up.

I think my next handle over there will be "hindsight2020". I'll just pull up random stupid posts from their pasts and comment on them. Lol
Make sure you bookmark WWDM’s post comparing Kueter to Kyle Snyder and prognosticating a similar path to dominance at HWT.

You can comment on that brown nugget under the handle “foresight2020” in a few days, assuming “hindsight2020” has a short life.

You heard right. He said in response to Pyles asking where they fit in, "they're both getting big, 97 heavyweight"
Niiiiiiiiice!

Say what you want about Askren, but he’s a wrestling savant. From watching a lot of his kids, it’s clear they don’t spend a lot of practice time pushing and “presenting themself.” I’m also pretty sure he believes that there is a science to physically peaking.

I still can’t believe that Tom Brands said that in public. Their injury rate and underperformance made it clear that something was amiss, but confirming it in an interview was just wild to me. The fact that he won a national championship in 2020 with that mindset blows my mind.

To me, the craziest thing Tom Brands said was when he told the wrestling world that he couldn't get the job done in recruiting and was needing to take advice from the dad of one of his recruits....The creation of the 3 inch binder. It's one thing to realize your shortcomings but it's another to actually expose them to the world.

"Peaking is for wusses."

Grinding to create and demonstrate mental toughness, interpreted as the ability to wrestle through injury and will one's self to victory for whatever duration under less than ideal circumstances, seems to be Iowa tradition. Managing one's body is seen more for aging senior wrestlers.

Spencer's quote after winning with no ACLs demonstrates he has bought in to this philosophy. His statement added another reason for Iowa wrestling fans to consider him their favorite son. Given this, it's hard to believe the approach will change. Injuries are simply one part of the beloved Iowa tough wrestling way.

Some on GIA (formerly HR) seem to understand the benefit of training to peak when compared to a more constant grind, would like the Iowa approach to change, but don't think it will as long as the Brands Bros are at the helm. IDK whether these Iowa wrestling fans are in the majority or minority.

Ha!

But seriously: we're gonna have Ryder + Fricchione + one of the twins at 197.

Maybe a 197 Correa could still be viable with a grayshirt + redshirt. That seems unlikely. (Same for Lawrence.)

Otherwise there's the logjam, also how much scholarship money Cael will tie to one weight.
I wouldn’t worry about Friccione. I saw him in person wrestling a few weeks ago and the kid’s shoulder is simply shot. Another Bergen Catholic kid with a trashed shoulder. I am thinking he will be a room guy at best. Hope I am wrong….but he is definitely not a short term answer to replace Dean. Maybe Beard decides he misses us!

There has been no indication that Starocci will move up. There has been some speculation on here that Brooks may move up for next year if he's planning to move to 97kg for 2024, but that has not been confirmed. Who knows, though.

86kg is 189. He *might* go 197 like many 86kg guys do. Most recently Amine.

Brooks is 30lbs light for 97kg.

Roster wise it probably makes the best lineup if AB goes to 197 and Barr slots in at 184. Brooks though should absolutely do what is best for him and if that is staying at 184 then that’s what he should do. If he does stay at 184 I’m not sure who mans the 197 spot. I think Barr would be way to small and not an option unless he really grows. He has the frame for it but it will probably take some time to fill out

Starocci has said he wants to go 74 kg / 163 lb for the Olympics. This is incompatible with bumping up to 184.

I could be way way off but I'm thinking Barr may be too small for 184... his freshman season at least. I know Carter has Olympic dreams so not in the cards but I think it might be best for the team if he were to bump up and slot Barr in at 174.

Barr is at 175 his Sr yr of h.s., so altho he is lanky and could put on weight eventually, I agree it is unlikely he could man 184 next yr; he might very well put on some muscle w/o much weight gain.
I think he simply redshirts next yr (or greyshirts)
But nether Starocci or Brooks seem to have any need to go up for themselves, and one moving up w/o the other doesnt seem to help the lineup enough to justify it.
And of course we have Facundo and Haines pushing up from below.
Whew !
I think the young studs are gonna simply have to wait on the old studs, and while they are waiting, see how much they grow.
Need portal help for 197 for next year.

Wait a minute… you’re telling me that GIA used to be HR?
Yep. When this Wrestling Room moved to On3, this site kept the subforum name. HR didn't retain its name when it underwent a similar transition. Maybe it wasn't an option, or maybe they decided to rebrand as GIA (which I wouldn't have chosen given the proximity to 'GInA).

I should have used my sarcasm font; sorry.

Maybe PSU sees Barr/Ryder as 174/184 and the Marisolas as 197/HWT. Oh to be inside Cael’s inner sanctum to have access to the master plan.
