Knowles isn't leaving OSU. Golden might be persuaded to return to his Alma mater. I think it will be Poindexter with Connor as LBer coach/assistant DC.
You would assume key defensive players we want to stay have been given some inside info already on who we are looking at as our next DC..no way was this a total surprise..also good move for Allen..besides probably a pay increse..nice qulaity of live living in SC..weather a bit more tolerable than Indiana or Pennsylvania...

AP will have to continue to coach safeties as the previous DC's coached LB's. That leaves room for DC at LB.

Lynn's fastest path to a HC would be take over at a currently established contender. PSU has tremendous defensive history and he's a lettermen. His dad is coaching in DC now. USC has a fair amount of work ahead of them if they think they're gonna jump right in the mix against OU, UM, OSU & PSU in just the conference. USC is as blueblood as it gets but look at the mess of the once dominant Florida schools. USC has a lot of work to elevate to its old self.
That's the most important thing. The Jimmies and Joes are more important than the Xs and Os.
Lateral to "come home" is different than lateral to go to Clemson (gross).

Sure he's a Pittsburgh guy that was Minnesota's DC before last year. Maybe DC at Rutgers...at least coached there.

As long as he's never a HC here I'm fine with that. Just an awful HC.
The biggest issue with hiring him as the DC is the first time CJF drops a game 30% or people will want Golden to replace him

Agreed. We have some elite talent on defense and overall good talent on all three levels. He did what you should do with that kind of talent but nothing special. He gave up 24 points to a pedestrian, banged up offense in the second half of the semifinals. He allowed the backup qb to shred our defense and get some momentum for the Irish. He didn't slow down Oregon and his zone defense was awful all year.
I'm sure the guy is a solid coordinator but this is Penn State and there should be a lot of people that want to be our defensive coordinator. Defense wins championships. And it doesn't hurt to have a receiver that can get open.
