A group of third grade students received a grammar lesson they’ll never forget after Penn State football players responded to practice letters they sent in October.

As first reported by WNEP-TV, the third graders in Athens, Bradford County were having some issues learning proper nouns so their teachers asked them to write letters to exercise their skills. The two teachers and many of their students are Penn State fans, which inspired them to send the letters to Happy Valley for the team to read.

When the students returned to school on Tuesday they were surprised to find the team wrote back. The Penn State players responded to the students with handwritten notes in late December, making sure to write them in print because the third graders can’t read cursive yet.

Student Nick Grazul thought it was especially great that they found the time to write back considering their busy practice schedule.

The players encouraged the third graders to study hard and gave one student an informal invitation to a football game at Beaver Stadium. Check out the video below.

Cute story.
Nice adjustment by the players...

The players themselves probably barely remember how to write in cursive.

edit - obviously this isn't a knock on the players, cursive is dead. Once you learn it, the likelihood of using it for anything besides signing your name is slim to none.

When I was at PSU, seemed like very few other students had much experience writing in cursive. Guessing PA doesn't emphasize it much in elementary school. Cursive is better for taking quick notes in class, print is better for actually reading them. IMHO.

It's too bad cursive writing is taking such a hit. Especially in a time when we're all talking about people expressing their uniqueness and individuality, what's more unique than one's own handwriting? Ironic that the way we express our individuality is by the message or brand we wear on our t-shirts.

LOL - Funny pic.

The article said of the 40 letters sent, there were 33 responses. Wonder who the slackers are.
