Football Penn State practice and Wednesday media availbility takeaways (9/13)

good to have Nelson back at Left guard.......with Tangwell gone and Nelson out for the game the line still looked very solid against Delaware.....who although a notch below us, we did push around at the line. Dawkins played a lot and looked fine....it will be interesting to see how team splits the time between Wallace and Shelton at RT, especially in the bigger games.

Illinois with a good running attack and a running QB will be a problem, especially first game on the road. Have been surprised how well teams have run on Illinois they were very stoudt last year with a secondary probably as good as PSU's secondary last year.

PSU should win, but we will learn about the PSU Defense, PSU OL and Allar against Illinois.

The WVU QB was very mobile and ran a good bit which was a test for the PSU defense. The LB play wasn't the greatest against WVU which should be good film for the team to have used in their prep for Illinios in order to correct some of the over runs that allowed the WVU QB to have the running success that he had. I look for Carter to have more of an impact against Illinois than he did vs WVU.

And if Izzard, Vanover and Hardy all return that will also help against the Illinois run game. Izzard was the most active DT at the end of the 2022 season and Vanover plays very good against the run and is very good in pursuit to the sidelines.

agreed. ILL should be a test in terms of bigger and stronger teams than what we've played so far. and as much as their coach turns me off, he's a damn good coach and strategist. He outcoached CJF the last time we played. We then play Iowa who will be as physical a team as we play this year.
