Football Penn State Set To Name Beaver Stadium Field - West Shore Home Field

Is THIS it? If so, are you f'ing kidding me?

Do they do ONLY baths, windows and doors? "We'll remodel your home, unless you need something other than baths, windows and doors"????

Make it make sense.
What, exactly, are you crying about?

It isn't unusual for contractors to specialize. The windows and doors is an odd add-on to the bath business, but the folks who remodeled my kitchen don't do other remodeling nor did most of the other contractors we looked at for the job. The people that I'm probably going to hire do replace my roof and siding don't do interiors. It's not a viable business model in an area with limited demand, but it works fine where the market can support it. Their website says that they operate out of 40 locations, have done tens of thousands of jobs, and won numerous awards, so the model is clearly working for them. I'm not sure what doesn't make sense about any of it; it actually seems quite reasonable.

As for your question on what happens if they can't pay, the name comes off the field and the school starts taking offers for a replacement. It has already happened.
The thing that is a bit odd to me is that Penn State football is a national brand yet this company is very regional or even local. Their awareness is limited. So for them it seems like a good strategy to build their awareness. However, I do wonder if Penn State could not get a more national sponsor or at least bigger than this company (Sheetz maybe even Hershey). Perhaps get more dollars too or the simple fact is in the market of naming rights to a college football field no matter how big the football brand is this is what your options look like.

I had never heard of the company before the naming rights came up and my knowledge of it comes from clicking on the company website link in this thread. Contrary to my first impression, with locations in 20 states across four time zones, they are not a regional company. I don't know what other companies were approached, if any made others made offers, nor what those offers were. It's a good question, but I don't think it would be wise for the university to put that information out since the other companies may not appreciate the potential public criticism of being out bid by a company most of us had never heard of. (A bathroom company offered $50 million and Sheetz offered only $30!...) It's not wise to empty your bladder into a well you may want to drink from in the future.

As I understand it, West Shore is a company that will remodel your bathroom. $50 million is more than a couple walk-in showers. What happens if your stadium naming rights are sold to someone too small/weak/poor to pay?

Am I right that this toilet replacement conglomerate is in MECHANICSBURG? JESUS.

The naming rights then get sold again. Look at all the pro sports stadiums that have had multiple names. Mci center, Enron field, CMGI, and so on.

What about it does not make sense? They specialize. Do you think toll bros would do a remodel?

No, Penn State should never divulge that information. Not for public consumption. I don't think across 20 states equates to 4 time zones but I get your point that they have a decent sized footprint. That is not national by any means. Still a disconnect to me relative to the national brand that is Penn State football. But you gotta go where the money is and if unknown bathroom remodel company offers more than a bigger more well known company like Hershey for example then that is who you go with.

Analyzing stadium naming rights involves understanding the value and effectiveness of these sponsorships, considering factors like brand awareness, fan engagement, and the potential for financial gain for both clubs and sponsors.

Understanding Stadium Naming Rights:
  • Financial Benefits:
Stadium naming rights can generate significant revenue for teams, helping offset costs related to stadium construction, operations, and player salaries.

  • Brand Exposure:
Sponsors gain valuable brand exposure, with the name of their company prominently displayed on the stadium, potentially reaching a large and engaged audience.

  • Local Focus:
The impact of stadium naming rights is largely local, making it crucial for brands to target their messaging and efforts within the stadium's region.

  • Long-Term Agreements:
Naming rights agreements are often long-term, providing a consistent source of revenue for the team and a lasting presence for the sponsor.

  • Fan Reaction:
Fan acceptance and resistance to naming rights can vary depending on factors like the sponsor's local connection, prior involvement with the team, and the impact of the investment.

  • Impact on Brand Perception:
Stadium naming rights can positively impact brand perception, with fans potentially viewing sponsors favorably for their support of the team and the local community.

  • Measurable Outcomes:
Studies on NFL stadium naming rights have found that they drive brand awareness, positive brand perception and increased consumer engagement, with a high percentage of fans able to correctly identify the stadium sponsor.

Some stadiums are on their 5th+ name. CMGI didn't even make it to their first game with the Patriots.

I'll bet West Shore home field does not last the life of the contract.

Can't imagine they have the rosiest outlook for their business given inflation and uncertainty with the economy.

And then you all pretend PSU's deal allowing the tiny business, which can't pay its bills, to put its name on Beaver Stadium, has no effect on Penn State's rep?

The deal is contingent on them paying their bills. If they stop paying the naming right will be sold to someone else. EVery dollar that PSU receives is a dollar they would not get with YOUR plan.

The recruits dont care about the name. They care about how much they will get out of the deal.

It didnt stop the Patriots from winning multiple super bowls.

You have no idea what MY plan is, nimrod. I just think it is laughably stupid for PSU to partner up with some outfit that brings nothing to the table, AND who you think is likely to fail to deliver. This is not just about the cash--it is also about associating yourself with WINNERS. Nobody ever heard of these jamokes.

The bring money to the table. If you know a better deal then let's hear. It will be $50M +$1 to name it Paterno field. You and the joebots can have your way but that is the price.

Find where i said anything about Joe in this thread, ding dong. Jeez. As I said twice already, this nationally known fb program deserves a national sponsor that someone has heard of. Who else was a bidder? Anyone at all? Anyone we have heard of?

Enron, Arthur Anderson and Trump University.

But thank you for presenting possibly the dumbest argument against this contractual situation - that the advertiser needs to be more well known to advertise.

? So, if Bob's Used Tires, located in Nowhere, PA, has 50 million bucks cause Bob won the lottery, he can advertise not just on the radio, but with his company's name on the field. Got it. How about a soccer ball manufacturer? How about an abortion pill manufacturer? The Republican National Committee? Purdue Pharma? Pornhub? A vegetarian soybean "meat" company? A women's clothing maker?

Do you? Do you got it?

If there aren't solvency concerns, or other ability to pay concerns ... or anything otherwise objectionable, and Bob's Used Tires was the highest bid ... of course they could.

How about a soccer ball manufacturer?

You mean, like Nike?!?! You fool.

How about an abortion pill manufacturer?

Pretty sure all the college girls are well versed in this, so it seems unnecessary ... but, OK.

The Republican National Committee?

They already advertise, with the anthem, crying about kneeling, flyovers and all that good stuff.

Purdue Pharma?

Doesn't exist.

Only if they hand out free samples.

A vegetarian soybean "meat" company?

I think that's better than a non-vegetarian soybean "meat" company.
A women's clothing maker?
What's your favorite? We can ask.

Nowhere is in Arizona, near Why.

Why does “Beaver” get to keep his name on stadium. What did he do for PSU football and PSU vs Paterno?

They've had a very close relationship with Penn State for a while. They're also heavily involved with NIL. The deal is fine.
