Basketball PENN STATE VS IOWA GAMETHREAD

Rhoades has this team clicking. We are a tough out at home. Beware Illini, Sparty, Hoosiers and Terps!

Can we please stop with the O’Boyle adventure? Can’t shoot and terrible on defense. No reason to play him at this point.
O’Boyle did a nice job contributing on defense as mentioned on the telecast. Should have had 2 drawn offensive fouls but these officials were lost out there. That backcourt call was a joke.

I like our chances against everyone of those teams except maybe Sparty. We don't match up well against them, and I like our chances against Illini because we get them at the RAC. We take even 4 of them, and steal another 1 on the road gives us an 11-9 record in the big ten. I can live with that.

Funny thing was the first one was worse than the one they called. And the guy who called the back court, Jeffery Anderson, was the guy who did the Minnesota game, and he was worse in that game. Missed two goal tending calls on Minnesota that would have give us a tie on the first one, and the lead on the second one. Both missed calls lead to Minnesota baskets. Instead of making the call, then reviewing it, he just missed them both, and then laughed at the fans when they got on him.

Sparty is beatable. Minny just beat them. We did get crushed by them but we are a different team now and a home game. Why do we not match up well? Are they really good in the post and rebounding?

Once again, a team that doesn't turn the ball over, just 10 a game, and we forced 18 tonight. This team just pressures you all the time. It may result in giving up some easy buckets, but it also leads to some easy buckets. We had 13, but 9 of them were in the first half, and 6 in the first 8 minutes.

I still maintain we got an upgrade at hc, it’s amazing. This guy built this team from nothing.
I have to agree with you 100%. Not only did he build a fun team, but his style of play is fun to watch. Iowa was another team that didn't turn the ball over a lot, and we forced 18 turnovers, many coming when we needed them.
Two big games on February 21st. We host Illinois, and ND will be playing Louisville for what should be sole possession of last place in the ACC. Then not only do we have a better core of players returning next year, considering they all return, we now have a better recruiting class coming in than ND. Yeah, we got the best of the deal.

Mike Rhodes is 12-11, while Shrewsbury is 7-16.

Clary had very limited time as he is working back from injury. But is it more than a coincidence the team has played much better without him?

I said this after the previous game and am not putting him down or knocking his play. And not knocking the coach as this was a patchwork team with all new pieces parts that took time to jell.

But the team works harder without him because they know they have to. They are all more involved and work the ball around much better. And they are now gaining confidence which they desperately needed.

Will be interesting to see how they work it when he is back 100%. His abilitIes are much needed but now with a better team around him he will be harder to defend and he can also make the rest of the guys even better.

With the proper mix this team could be really good. Gonna be fun to see how it plays out.

Kanye is still learning, but his play in the first half if the Minnesota game qas superb. He had 5 assist in that first half. He had two real good assist last night in the first half. He is a young sophomore, Ace is a senior. It is now Rhoades' job to develop that part of Kanye's game. Problem is he reverts to one on one in tight games.

Coach Shrews plan is to grow with freshman, and that worked a few years ago. The Portal changes things and coming in last will hurt.

Clary being in should take a lot of pressure off Baldwin. Clary is improving at penetrating and dishing. They didn’t play better without him….the offense was horrible against Rutgers and they shot lights out against Indiana. Other than a couple of poor shot selections last night, he played well and contributed well. He makes things happen when the other guys are shooting poorly….if they’re shooting well, he doesn’t try to do too much.

Kanye is a talented offensive player. He hits nearly 40% from behind the arc, hasn't been able to be stopped driving to the basket, and can make shots some can't even get off. He is still learning the game. He gas had some great moments as the 5 assist he had in the first half of the Minnesota game. Unfortunately when the game gets close the ball has a tendency to get lost in his possession. He then becomes turn over prone, but make no mistake this team is better with him

Baldwin also tends to be turnover prone…had five in the first half against Iowa. But we’re better with both of them.

Wahab having a nice game is huge. If he can be aggressive in the post, scoring and rebounding then that is a great sign and forces the defense to account for him more. That opens it up for Baldwin and Clary, two of the better guards in the B10. And if we can hit the three ball then we will give anyone a run for their money.

Are Q and Ace the only starters we lose to graduation?
Ace has another year if he wants it. By my count, we definitely lose Q, O’Boyle, and Mitchell. And we’ve got 4 recruits coming in, so there will have to be another one leaving. Plus, we REALLY need an impact 5 for next season, but that would mean needing to open another spot.

He has had some problem, but with the ball in his hands more you will expect that. He still has a +2-1 assist to turnover rate. Not terrible, but a lot of his turnovers came early in the year when we were turning the ball over at a high rate. In Big Ten games he is closer to 3-1 in assist to turnovers.
