Nice weekend for Penn State. Shelton committed (anticipated) and Darien also flipped to the good guys (Ryan had alluded to that before). So 2 guys that were suspected PSU leans, where does that leave PSU for the rest of the class?

Like Ryan said, PSU is now sitting at #19 with a total of 1,790 points and 19 commitments. Penn State is still 1 recruit short of reaching the 20-player threshold that counts towards the Rivals rankings (when a team has more than 20 players, ONLY the top 20 count towards the rankings). Who remains a target?

Snelson, Chavis, Weaver, Hamlin, Ferns, Johnson (pending Hamlin decision). Yes, I know that Penn State looks like they'll miss on Hamlin and Ferns, but until they pick another school, I'll keep them in the conversation. If you missed the first several of these posts, I do a best and worst case scenario.

Best Case: Land all 5 of them

Penn State would then have 24 commits and would drop the points for the lowest 4 players (Weaver, and 3 of the 5.5 rated players - Toney, Barbir, Darien, Gillikin). The total points would be approximately 2,100 which would be good for about #16 in the rankings. Of course, nobody expects PSU to land all of these guys.

Worst case: Only Johnson

Let's say Ferns picks WVU, Hamlin picks Pitt/OSU, Snelson picks UCF/Min, Chavis can't qualify, Weaver goes elsewhere and Penn State only lands Johnson (aaaand let's assume nobody else since it puts us at a nice, even 20). Penn State would then finish with 1,865 points which would put Penn State at #22 based on the previous 3 years' class rankings.

I said in the other thread that the 3-year average for #25 in the country has been about 1,773 points. Penn State already has 17 more points than that. It is looking more and more likely that Penn State will finish in the top 25. Of course, there are still several factors to consider (Pryts, Toney, off-the-radar players, etc.), so I won't guarantee anything, but it seems like the "Disaster" class is going to be one of the 25 best in the country for the 3rd straight year.
