Per Flo it's official: McKenna to Ohio State

Yeah, might be hard to believe, but the news actually was being discussed in the 18-page McKenna thread already.

No problem. I was hoping he would not come here for real. I love Nick Lee and the fact he has 4 years left. Only a true freshman. They still have no chance. They along with others will continue to fight for 2nd place. We are bonus machines from 149 through Hwt !!!! Get Nick they have 0 chance.

We ain't getting bonus over tOSU at 197 and 285, bro.

I'm not thinking our enthusiastic new poster was saying over tOSU - just in general. That said, MM is clearly not a bonus machine by any measure of course.

You'll have to forgive Spyker v4

Well, then, let me embrace this opportunity to double down on my Rasheed bet and simultaneously validate the Spyker v.4 Bonus Machine proclamation. All in fun . . .

I'm not falling for this. I won't believe this news for fact until 21 Guns confirms or denies where McKenna is going.

Is McKenna dead lifting 600 pounds yet and when he does will that enable him to get off the bottom?

Think about what this means. Ohio State has 2 kids at 149 and 157 the caliber of McKenna and little Jordan and Tom Ryan is thinking of ways to preserve them by having them not wrestle their Penn State opponents.

He wasn't wrestling this year well before McKenna committed
I know you know more than the average poster relative tOSU but I've heard the contrary with Jake and he will be taking the mat this year wherever the chips may fall.

I don't believe there has been consensus information reported on a single off-season question this summer. It is really quite amazing (in an interesting way). Humans . . .

My info on Jake came from a poster who's a bit more plugged into tOSU than I. I had heard before that Jake spent last season battling injury and at the banquet Rodmac (poster I'm referring to) said Tom noted that and made it seem as if those injuries could be ending his wrestling career. Later on it was said that that wouldn't be the case but steelwood radio who's a former member of the team said on his podcast Jake would be sidelined with an elbow injury

Well before any rumor of a McKenna transfer, I read on the ohiowrestling.net board (which has some pretty good sources) that Jake Ryan was unlikely to wrestle for tOSU in 2017/2018 and that Burcher would go at 157, which is probably a better weight for Burcher than 165. However, it's now all moot, assuming that Micah Jordan moves up to 157.

Any thoughts, predictions on hayes?

Steelwood radio podcast had an interview with Key-Shawn Hayes last week. He stated he is coming along fine from the injury, but didnt really give a lot of specifics. IIRC, he said he was going 141, but this interview was prior to McKenna's announcement, so who knows.
If I were Hayes, I would want to be the one to bump up to 149. 141 has about 10-12 guys that "can" AA, where as 149 has much less. But, 149 has 'that guy', so the ceiling is runner up.

Hayes is very good in 2/3 positions. In his redshirt year he split matches with Kolodzik, which was his only loss. Last year, prior to the injury, he did lose to Kevin Jack. The 1st period ended 0-0, but Hayes looked like the better neutral wrestler. Jack rode out Key-Shawn for the entire 2nd, IIRC.

Hayes is very good on top, especially tilts.

IMHO- If can work on his bottom game, he can be mid to high AA.
But, as above 141 has a LOT of guys that can place at nationals, so circumstances and seeds will play a huge role.

Heil
Jack
Ashnault
Meridith
Hayes/McKenna
Kolodzik
Thorn
Eierman
Storr
Red

Then add Cortez and Brent Moore, and other than Heil being 1,2 or 3, the others can finish anywhere from 2 to DNP.

RE: Jake Ryan:
He is not wrestling this year per the Steelwood guys, who will be 100% - as they will get their info directly from the top. Plus they are good friends with Jake. If they release a nugget, it will be 100% true and vetted for release to the public.
He will try to get a medical redshirt. This will be on top of his greyshirt, and his redshirt. If he comes back after this year and finishes his "jr" and "sr" year, he may be the oldest wrestler to compete in tOSU history.

Not to make light of your otherwise excellent and appreciated post, I had to fix a little something in there . . .

This informative post looks a little like "journalism". I wonder if Willie would approve ?
