Yeah I like Franklin but it sure as hell didn’t look like the did any coaching with 2 weeks to prepare. WAY too passive on offense early in the game.Sad but you have to do both.
Yes we looked so ready to go.I don't think the problem is focus.
Lol. Ok. What's the problem then?I don't think the problem is focus.
Lack of football coaching knowledge and/or ability?Lol. Ok. What's the problem then?
I believe the problem is strength and conditioning as well as player development on the line of scrimmage. Those Michigan linemen on BOTH sides of the ball had a lower star rating than penn state on the average and that's fact.Lack of football coaching knowledge and/or ability?
Matt Mcgloin just said EXACTLY WHAT I SAID...on his podcast. Stop leaving town on bye weeks and spend the time coaching your own team and development of an actual game plan.Maybe? Thought here?
People have been looking past the significant number of problems we have had for years and it all starts at the top. Franklin does not learn from his mistakes. He is held back by a flawed football philosophy that lacks substance. He has many positives but his football world view puts a low ceiling on the team's potential. That ceiling is a 10 win regular season.I believe the problem is strength and conditioning as well as player development on the line of scrimmage. Exhibit A was plain to see today. Beamon at 270 pounds was being beaten beyond belief out there today.People have been looking past the significant number of problems we have had for years and it all starts at the top. Take for example, Franklin's hiring philosophy. He hires system guys. Guys that share his world view. Explosive plays win games. Shallow analytics. This of course is pure nonsense. He amasses talent as a recruiter with little regard for roster needs forcing the system coaches to attempt to execute their systems with an unbalanced roster with high degrees of player/scheme misfits and gaping holes in talent.
This really true but this could be said for basically everyone but 4-5 teams in college football. This got a Paterno in a bunch of trouble as well at turn of the century when he was amassing TE/FB/DE/LB types in game that was moving toward skill players. He amasses talent as a recruiter with little regard for roster needs forcing the system coaches to attempt to execute their systems with an unbalanced roster with high degrees of player/scheme misfits and gaping holes in talent.
That someone was only playing about 30 snaps. Number 11.This really true but this could be said for basically everyone but 4-5 teams in college football. Franklin doesn't recruit power players well, he recruits skill players great. The problem is that it takes power players for skill players to flourish.
All that said, players have some responsibility too. Our front 7 looked like they were on wheels yesterday. At some point someone needs to make a tackle, fill a freaking hole, don't get pushed back 5 yards, Dan Connor can't come off the sideline and play for them for goodness sakes.
Mark Brennan commented earlier that Franklin excused the 4th and 6 debacle as running out of time, but there was a ton of time left only down 7 midway 3rd quarter..I found it interesting that even Brennan, who NEVER criticizes the staff, said the move was desperate and unnecessary....People have been looking past the significant number of problems we have had for years and it all starts at the top. Can’t agree 100%. He hired Yurcich and ditched the RPO which he was absolutely married to. He won the Big with it and stayed with it far too long. Now he has Singleton lining up eight yards deep. That is an entirely new offensive scheme.People have been looking past the significant number of problems we have had for years and it all starts at the top. There ya go.
It can be done through the portal but you need to have success in finding a few dts, and you can't discriminate: Gotta take what you can get. There will be a few 300-310 pounders out there, go get them. Can’t agree 100%. He hired Yurcich and ditched the RPO which he was absolutely married to. But, as he admitted yesterday, our lines are too light. Both sides got pushed all over the field yesterday. What is bad is that they never adapted to in game conditions. Any d lineman that is getting pushed all over needs to go very low and get into the legs of the o line. If you submarine an o lineman he can’t push you around and you clog up that hole and allow LBs to make a play.
Sad thing is if size is the thing it will take a couple years of recruiting that emphasizes size to get guys here and ready to contribute.
