I have been following Phil since he left PSU. He has amassed a good mma record, but his standup leaves something to be desired. Still, he leaves the UFC as a top 10 fighter in his division. Hopefully he can have some success in Bellator and continue to develop his hands and his ability to finish fights on the ground.

Re: Is this a step up? I don't really follow MMA / UFC

Sadly, it is a step down. The UFC is the #1 MMA organization and no one else even comes close. Bellator is #2 but the competition is very subpar, and they have resorted to circus fights just to get high ratings. They also have really shady contracts that will try and keep fighters in "prison" if they ever want to leave. Hopefully Phil did not get locked into one of their usual deals.

Love Phil but this is a bad deal

Something else must have gone on with the UFC. Top 10 fighters are beloved by UFC mgmt. He had 2 losses but to great fighters and he was still very competitive. I am not a fan of Bellator but will watch as I like you have followed and rooted on Phil from the beginning. I typically post his upcoming fight details to this site.

Fighters do make it back to the UFC so hopefully this is short term. Eventually they will be bought out by the UFC or go under.

Good luck to Mr. Wonderful! Anyone know of other PSU guys joining MMA?
