does anyone know if something is wrong with Maikel Franco? He looks like a very different player than early last year. Do the Phillies have a plan B in the minors? Herrera is another guy that is struggling?
I really thought that next year the Phillies would be much improved, it does NOT look that way now.

They are both SUPER undisciplined hitters - who both are marginal at best to begin with. That combination plus 3 years of knowing where to pitch the two, and they are toast. When you're slumping, you need to be able to work a count - these two swing at anything so they'll dig their own grave out of MLB.

Do you know if they have anyone in the minors to replace them? Or is this it :-(

This. MLB pitchers learn real quick pitches players cannot hit. Either the hitter adapts or isn't in the league in a few years. Both of them show little to no sign of being able to do this. I actually think Odubel has a shot to turn it around if somehow he smartens up as his swing is decent. Franco's swing would need a makeover which is really tough.

Not really a viable Plan B for Franco in the minors. The preseason Top 30 prospects in the system do not include any 3rd basemen.

As for Herrera, there are some options. The #2 prospect is Mickey Moniak, and he plays CF. The #6 prospect is Roman Quinn, and he also plays CF. Quinn would likely be a higher prospect, but he's had trouble staying healthy the last few seasons in the minors. Carlos Tocci is the #24 prospect, and he also plays CF.

Well, the good news with Moniak is that he looks like a terrific prospect, can really hit and has very good speed. The bad news is that he just turned 19 and is currently in low-A ball, so he's likely a few years away.

yeah, if the question is which CF prospect is closest to the bigs, it would be Quinn -- provided he can stay healthy.

Nick Williams is another option and he's heating up while Quinn is slumping. It's actually a welcome change to have some viable options at LHV.
