75 Million worth of potential downside....
Obviously, if he pitches like he did in 15/16 it’s worth it.
Are the Phillies that close to contending? I really don’t know.
But you’re talking about a 32 year old (signing till he’s 35) who’s numbers have taken a downturn (granted, the downturn has been from “dominant” to still “above average”)
Over the last two years, per nine innings:
Hits: From 5.9 to 8.0
HR: From 0.4 to 1.2
Ks: From 9.3 to 8.7
BBs: From 1.9 to 2.9
Fastball: From 94+ to 92
With the way this year’s FA market has gone.... JA (and Scott Boras) have to be breathing a sigh of relief.
Boras in particular, since he’s already cost at least one client over 10,000,000 for 2018 (by not taking the QO). Not the first time Boras’ arrogance has cost his client huge cash.
WRT Arrieta, a fly ball pitcher pitching in that Cigar Box Stadium in Philly....... IDK.
Wrigley - for all the “tradition” that its a hitters park, really isn’t (the wind blows in as much as it blows out)
