Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson

Yes, very hard to dislike someone who talks to a kid like that. I wish he were my children's guidance counselor at school. 😀
Kids gotta learn. You parade her out their to interview a fighter right before a fight, give her that question, and expect him to talk about rainbows?

The same could be said if she had interviewed Charles Manson. Does that make him likeable?

What did he say that wasn’t true or controversial for adults?
That's irrelevant. Conscientious people understand that you don't say certain things, even if they are true. Or at the very least, you are careful about HOW you say it.

I have no problem with what he said. Imagine what she sees on tv and Grammy award shows.

Not picking on you but God forbid anyone would speak truth. Truth is its own cleanser and if not used you end up with and all sorts of perversions and then not being permitted to speak the truth. When the truth hurts it's for the good of all.

Sorry, but that's simply not true. For example, when someone buys you a birthday gift that you already have, you don't tell them you already have it.

In this case, what Tyson said was opinion, not an objective truth. And it's a very negative opinion that does no good for anyone.

I missed whatever he said- but did get to watch the fight.

Predictably fell asleep on my couch during our basketball 2nd half. Awoke around 11:40 to one of my mutts licking my face. Flipped on Netflix with no sound and watched.

I sorta liked Iron Mike's spartan entrance vs the glitz of Jake. The marketing ploy worked as I did google the brand on his t shirt- but I'll never buy b/c I'm the wrong demo.

Just watching without any of the fanfare was interesting. It felt like Tyson was holding back looking for that one big blow to knock Paul out.

After round 2- with the exception of a few flurries- you could really see Mike losing his stamina- which energized Paul.

The reach advantage was big for Jake as it enabled him to stay safely back. The old Tyson would've bulled his way inside and pummeled away...but the 58 year old version appeared to be the one to grab first every time to get a stoppage.

Dude got paid to make a spectacle of himself. He likely doesn't care how sad the performance was. Like Pistol Pete on the Celtics, or Joe Namath on the Rams and likely Aaron Rodgers on the Jets- faded lions never seem to know when to hang 'em up.

I don't know much about Paul but was rooting against him as much as I was rooting for Tyson. In the end it was a waste of time. Glad I already have Netflix and didn't pay extra.

This is a sign of our attention mongering times. Honestly part of the intrigue was if Tyson could be Du Koo Kimmed....

Ugly...

I have to agree with you on this one.

But first, maybe I was one of the few people in America who didn't know or care that an old, washed-up Mike Tyson was staging a circus act in the guise of a fight with some guy named Jake Paul last night. Proves I don't get out much I guess.

Anyway, the whole spectacle only goes to show that professional boxing, which I once followed closely and used to be one of the great glamour sports on the American scene, long ago descended into irrelevance and freak-show territory.

Going back to Tyson's response to the girl, I think it was low-class and totally inappropriate. Besides that, it was a depressing and nihilistic view of life that says nothing matters, you don't matter, I don't matter, all that matters is get everything you can while you can...and then die. And that, to use language that Mike Tyson would understand, is a phucked-up way of looking at this world.
