Pico TKO 1st Rd

How do you fall face first while moving backward?

I won't call that a dive but he might get the bends if he gets up too quickly.

They are not going to mess up the cash cow again. Protect their investment....leave nothing to chance :) Or....he hit him really really hard....you choose.

Ah, so he fought a bum...

Well.....They signed him when he was barely a teenager. He was....by far....the biggest name Bellator had signed at the time. He doesn't last a minute in his first fight ( Ya think someone got fired after that? ). Now...every time he throws a punch...they guy falls over. It could be a coincidence.......he is good.....or maybe just his predetermined destiny. Only the promoter knows for sure :)

Seriously some of you need to step in a ring before passing judgement. I boxed competively well over 15 years, all over the place. Met some pretty famous boxers and sparred a few world champs when I was younger. I have dropped countless kids with left hooks to the body with 16 ounce gloves on. Actually years after I stopped fighting I help train amateur mma guys with there hands. What do you think would happen with those little mma gloves? I have seen many clips of Pico as a teenager boxing and the kid has seriously good boxing skills and decent power. Me and some of my buddies and family talk boxing and Pico in mma.

I have said for years he will end up stopping guys on body shots with dudes against the cage or whatever. I don’t give a crap how tough you are or how good your chin is, you get hit in the right place with a body shot you are going down. Period. And as far as Pico getting iced in his pro debut, ANYONE gets hit clean with a punch they don’t see can get put to sleep. It happens. Sure they need to match him a bit safer and build his game up but that bodyshot was textbook and anyone was going down from that shot.

FYI...he signed in November 2014. He was 18 years old.

That looked like a legit liver shot to me. That can be paralyzing. Looks a lot like what Bernard Hopkins did to De La Hoya. Doesn't mean the guy wasn't a tomato can, but the punch looked legit to me.

This is almost as embarrassing as the Minnesota fans who started chanting "Logan Stieber" in the middle of Zain teching a dude in the finals.
When was that? Now that the goffers are generally forgotten rodents by Saturday their 15 remaining fans are not very well heard.

Who is embarrassed? I for one would pay good money to watch Pico and Zain in a cage. Animals!

Right before Zain's first turn, if I remember right. A smattering from the section in the upper level, quickly shut up by the ref's hand swiping

They could take all of my money, but that wasn't your point, and you know it. Such sour grapes that you have to go to years-back losses against a guy not even involved in your program.

I have never boxed but wondering if the 40 extra pounds of fat I have lessens the impact some or not

That is the funny thing about goffers. Logie had one loss his final two years and his senior year he had one guy he could not bonus. Same guy, that Zain Train dude.

Silly goffers. Hey, by the way. Did you know Minnesota at one time was a pretty good wrestling program? I saw a documentary on the History Channel.

Can i get you a tissue? It's all apart of the back and forth banter that has been going on for years. Should i post a pic Q pinning Gambrall to make you feel better?

I wish Metcalf was a little younger. Would have loved to watch him and Zain battle. Rare talents

You don't see the difference between Q/Gambrall Metcalf/Molinaro and this?

As for the tissue, better save those for this afternoon, you'll need them.

I agree 100% with you James. In the MMA world Pico is still a kid. Most MMA guys aren't considered to be in their prime until their late 20's. Keep in mind this was only Pico's 3rd MMA fight. He did not fight MMA as an amateur and his first fight was as a professional and didn't go so well for him. He has since rebounded well and ended his next to 2 fights very quickly with TKO's.

I watched the fight last night with my son who trains in MMA and several of his friends who also train in MMA. All of them are very impressed with Pico and feel his management team is rushing him to soon. The guy he fought last night was 31 with a 12 - 3 record and a nine fight win streak. His opponent last night may not be challenging for the UFC title anytime soon but he certainly is not a stiff either.

I made the original post because I genuinely felt some people on this board may have been interested and was surprised to see the reaction. For the record, I am not trolling this board with the "Pico is greater than Zain" line. I like many wrestling fans wish we would have had the opportunity to see Pico vs Zain, or possibly Pico vs Nolf or Imar in folk style at 157 (which is the weight I think Pico would have wrestled in college). Unfortunately we will never know the outcome of those match ups and wish Pico would have chosen a more traditional route.

Pico's amateur wrestling resume speaks for itself. As an MMA fighter he has earned his standing as a very talented young prospect with an incredibly high ceiling. Time will tell how far he can ascend the MMA ladder. I wish the young man well.

Come on, these guys don't take dives. The idea that Bellator had his opponent take one is absurd. There is zero evidence to support that.

Shane Krutchen isn't just some guy, he's a solid MMA fighter and has a ton of experience. For Pico to stop him and make it look so easy is a testament to where Pico's ascendancy will take him. He's 21 and will only get better from here.
