This whole Playoff System needs to be fixed.

Yet this doesn't hold true for Football and Basketball Playoff Structures at any other level including the Pro's, other college levels, HS.... etc.... Amazing how arrogant you are being such a dumbass moron. Let's just ignore the fact that you're trying to uae this as an argument why Football Playoff Structures at all levels are far more restrictive than Basketball Playoff Structures are at those levels..... all except for THE FACT that they aren't you raving arrogant douche.
You calling someone else arrogant and a "raving arrogant douche" is an amazing lack of self-awareness.

As usual, let's just accept that you don't understand what you're talking about about....football and basketball are very different and not really comparable.

Happy New Year Bushey. Stay on your meds.

Wasn't true in the PSU game, was it dipshit???

You might want to learn how to read. To post effectively on a message board you need more than simply being an ahole. Make it a New Year's resolution.
He got banned from here once for his antics under the username Bushwood. Not much has changed. It's probably just better to put him on ignore and save the hassle. THAT should be the New Years resolution for everyone else on this board

Oh gee, let me guess, FOOTBALL PLAYOFFS at every other level of the NCAA of which there are many, have nothing to do with a Football Playoff at the NCAA FBS level??? Amazing how selective your reading is a$$hole.

I think that the playoffs have worked out perfectly. Clearly the 4 best programs have made the Final Four........

How funny for the SEC that for them to do well they need to pull for the Newbie , Texas.....

How so?
When there's a playoff that's the goal. Bama, USCe, Ole Miss, Miami, Illinois, etc--failed to accomplish their goal. None of them are celebrating a bowl bid. Pride and competition allows some of those games to be good but no one cares.

There are 129 teams in FBS......you only listed 5 of them. I believe that many teams know from the start that they have no chance to win the NC, so a conference 'ship or bowl eligibility is most definitely a goal.

Just because you don't care does not mean that no one cares, even though you think you speak for everyone.

The one thing that really messed up the seedings was Ohio St losing to Michigan. If that doesn't happen then do they beat Oregon in b10 championship game and then are the #1 overall seed?

All teams have a path to the playoff--no one's goal is a bowl
That might be a secondary goal but it's no one's goal--and, if it is, that coach needs to be fired
You also make an excellent argument to expand the playoff to at least 24 (also, small correction, there's 134 teams)

Well then, that's 5 more teams that care about a bowl game.

You also wrote "Pride and competition allows some of those games to be good but no one cares.".....the pride and competition, by itself, tells you that they care.

I think we're using the word "care" differently here
I'm going to try playing mini-golf against the wife and kids but the outcome doesn't matter
I mean, if you want to believe scrimmage are meaningful that's cool--I don't understand why people can't accept what football is today

But it didn’t. They earned their seed. That’s how seeding works. It may seem like a detriment but….losing is a detriment. Just ask Alabama.

There is way too much handwringing over this.

The bottom line is we have been subjected to 3 decades of BS and Eye Test. 12 teams were just put in a mixing bowl and the most obvious observation is deserving teams did not get a chance to play for the marbles under the past formats (as if we didn’t already know). And…just beciase eye test says a team is the best, they may not be.

Some tweaking is necessary for sure but holy crap this is fun. FUNALLY!!

Except for ASU which got buttholed by the no targeting call. OTOH…what a game.

The structure is ridiculously inequitable - you have the #1 Team in the entire Bracket playing a team in the Quarterfinals, that they shouldn't have to face via their CFP Selection Ranking until the Finals! (duhO$U is #6 in the Final CFP Selection Rankings). Ditto #2 UGa - they are getting a Semi-Final quality matchup via Final CFP Selection Rankings in the Quarters. Two teams that should have played in the 1st RD via their Final CFP Selection Ranking (#9 and #12) have been given byes into the 2nd RD??? And the #11 team via the Final CFP Selection Rankings has been eliminated without ever playing a game.

The economics of this thing are also not sustainable imo - no fanbase is going to travel to three different Bowl Games in the span of 3 weeks to attend a Quarterfinal, Semifinal and Final Game. This aspect has not been well thought out just like the structure. It's frankly stupid, just like the structure, and likely created to placate the "5 Major Bowls" - no way this works longterm imo. They should just fully populate a 16 Team Bracket and have the lower ranked team play at the higher ranked team through the "College Super Bowl". Let the 5 Major Bowls rotate every 5 years for the "College Super Bowl" and just sponsor a non-playoff game in the other years
I think it worked out fine. The only team not in the semis that probably should be is Oregon. However, anyone that ran into the OSU buzz saw in the quarters was going to get knocked out and have the same argument. OSU is better than their 9-2 record and their loss to UM knocked the brackets out of whack.

Kind of--I get what you're saying
But if they just did (and I'm going off memory so it may be slightly off with 10-12)

9 Boise State at 8 Indiana (1 Oregon)
10 SMU at 7 Tennessee (2 Georgia)
11 Arizona State at 6 Ohio State (3 Texas)
12 Clemson at 5 Notre Dame (4 Penn State)

I think there'd be less complaints

Agree that they earned their seed. I was just throwing out a hypothetical.

Not sure about that.... Oregon got royally screwed by this format - they had to play a team in the quarters that they shouldn't have had to play until the Finals! You really believe Oregon doesn't beat ASU, BSU or the UGa team we saw yesterday??????????

The only reason Oregon isn't in the Final 4 is because they were completely hosed by the absurd and utterly pointless 12-Team structure they used, when fully populating the 16-Team Bracket with the CFP Final Selection Rankings and having the lowest-ranked team play at the homefield of the higher ranked team until the Final, would have been infinitely fairer to the #1 Seed - only undefeated team in entire tournament and they're given the hardest quarters draw by a factor of 10! So needlessly unfair and stupid.

Oregon didn't get screwed by the seedings. They lost to the 8 seed so blame Ohio St for losing to Michigan.

Agree. And after that you can’t reward them on talent. So if they won, the seeds would have been

OSU- Oregon. Winner
Georgia
Boise
Arizona state
OSU- Oregon loser
Texas
Psu
Nd
Tennesse
Indiana
Smu
Clemson

Most likely
ASU/ big 10 loser
Boise texas
Psu/ georgia
Nd/ big 10 winner

I still think you need to reward conference champs, just like the nfl. They don’t seed the Vikings/lions loser over the 9-8 bucs.

Man…..too much unnecessary energy. This has been nothing but great.
