Pitt fans say the darndest things

umm...
Friggin' hilarious.

They sure aren’t. Since September 9, 2018 twice a day at 5:09 am and again at 5:09 pm I’ve been celebrating 51-6.
As of September 15, 2019, I expect for a long, long time to be able to celebrate twice a day at 2:04 am and 2:04 pm.
I expect it to be a lot like the 2017 game. Pitt will hang around for a half, then PSU will pull away. I’ll go with 31-13 just because PSU is breaking in a new QB.

That's how I see it, too. I fully expect Narduzzi to go emotionally overboard and obsess about Penn State to the detriment of his game plan, but they will have a little extra fight in them after the mauling last year. So, I think they'll keep it competitive for a while. Could even see a first half akin to last year.

But our d-line and LBs are going to exploit their new O-line and RBs, take away their run game, and force Kenny Heisman to make plays -- which he won't. It could get real ugly by the 3rd quarter. And Pitt fans will then spend the next many years saying the darndest things about how we're afraid of them and the like.

38-13, good guys.

And after going all in emotionally for this game, look for Pitt to have a massive letdown the rest of the season.

I want to see a bigger ASS. BEATING. , something like the 66-3 bomb we dropped on maryland a couple of years ago.

Virginia should beat them in the opener, and if they are focused on us instead of Ohio, they can easily lose to the Bobcats who are expected to make it to the MAC Championship game. We should just be third in the series of letdowns. Followed by another letdown when they go to UCF in week 4. It'll be a another whole season of letdowns, followed by bringing Narduzzi back for another whole season of letdowns because they can't afford to fire him. Narduzzi will be the Chris Ash of the ACC. Can't coach, can't recruit, and a buyout way to high to fire.

Glad this is the last year they will be staining our schedule.

We're going to win 116-4? Why would we give up those safeties? I don't get it...

I'll settle for a score like the first PSU/Pitt game I witnessed live, November 23, 1968 when #3 Penn State put a whoopin on pitt by the tune of 65–9. My older brother was attending main campus at that time, and a friend of the family, also a PSU engineering grad, was supposed to pick us up in Pittsburgh early Saturday morning. But they got delayed and instead picked us up at the Allegheny County airport in his company's plane so we could get to the game on time, with my older brother picking us up at the airport and ferrying us to the game......

When Pitt gets shut out, we will be celebrating the win only on military time. Which means we won’t be able to celebrate twice a day... that’s their evil plan.

Pitt fan here who comes in peace. I believe Penn state will win by the score or 31-17. I, unlike many others, will miss this rivalry due to the fact that I grew up with it. I just don't understand why Penn state fans hate to schedule Pitt so much? I think it is a good instate rivalry and wonder why so many hate it. Good luck with your season.

I think many older fans would enjoy playing Pitt on a regular basis again, but when the Pitt athletic department has to use the Penn State game to fund itself by not selling one game tickets, I think it’s pretty sad.

Thanks for the post.

I don’t engage in this childlike rivalry BS.

I think the truth is that many in our fan base, especially in Eastern Pa, don’t care anymore. Not caring is much worse than hate.

Lots of reasons for that .. Joining the Big Ten, the long gap in playing games cost a generation to lose touch, Pitt’s program has had a huge drop since the 1980s, games against tOSU and Michigan are the “point to” games now.

It’s like a lot of relationships, we have grown apart. One party is ready to move on and the other is not quite there yet, but should be soon.

For starters, and speaking only for myself.......I'm fed up with Pitt "fans" who denigrate JVP and PSU with child abuse rants. Using a crime to escalate a football rivalry is despicable and people who care to investigate realize that PSU football's role in these alleged crimes didn't exist. I've been to bowl games and heard this shit, I don't want to play a "rival" who needs PSU's attendance and name brand recognition to stay afloat and hear it. PSU doesn't need Pitt for anything and perhaps some of their fans should have considered this instead of burning bridges. This also applies to your in need of anger management coach.
Finally, you seem like a good guy. If all Pitt folks had your class....perhaps this series would have been renewed.

Have you seen your board? If Peak had an ounce of class he would clean it up. Your board hates PSU and most there don't want to play us.

I’m a Pitt fan who likes to visit this board (I like the history threads and the hot women threads, which have been missing of late). For Pitt no matter if it’s 1976 or 2019 can count on roughly 40-48k per game when they’re good. It makes good economic sense for Pitt to schedule PSU, WVU, Notre Dame; guaranteed 70k in the seats. That’s the main reason the administration wants to keep the games with PSU.

If penn state played 8 conference games every year, like Pitt, and teams were required to play 10 power 5 teams I’d love for one of them to be Pitt

Since PSU plays 9 conference games, it allows for 1 OOC game with a power 5 to make 10 p5 teams I don’t want that game to be Pitt every year because they don’t add the value of an Auburn, VT, WV, or provide variety

As Harrisburg Dave said, western PA and some older alumni care. Pitt is completely irrelevant to most other PSU fans. When PSU went on sanctions, Pitt had a chance to capitalize and didn't. Beating PSU in game one had no positive impact on Pitt's program other than keychains. Now PSU's highly ranked recruiting classes are starting to see the field. In the years to come, the competitive difference would be huge. So enjoy the fact that the series is over, and good luck in the rest of your games.

Thanks for the post. You seem like a decent guy.

My take: growing up in southern Illinois and attending Illinois for undergrad (Penn State for grad school, and grew up a PSU football fan), the annual Mizzou hoops game was HUGE. But my Chicago-area friends couldn't care less -- especially since at this time, Mizzou was down and we had something like a 10-game winning streak in the series. Some Illini fans even wanted the series cancelled in favor of getting somebody like Notre Dame or Kentucky on the schedule instead.

For PSU fans outside of Western PA, I can't imagine Pitt means much. It doesn't to me. That's no disrespect to Pitt, but to me, Pitt is little different than UVA or Boston College. I'd rather see us go out and get an Auburn or Texas on the schedule -- which is where we're going.

The rivalry of the 70s and 80s is over. There's just no obvious draw. And as others have said, the obsessive PSU hate -- particularly directed at JVP -- is a major turn off. We have enough little brothers we have to play each year (Rutgers, Maryland) that resort to that kind of intense hate. Why add another?

If your fan base was more like you, I’d agree. Go to the Lair and check out posters like Buffet Parrothead, Pitt Chains, Crazy Paco, and Chris Peak (the guy who runs it). They are why PSU fans want nothing to do with Pitt.

I think Yogi Berra is posting over there now. If this isn't one of the darndest things, I don't know what is. RE: Pitt's # 33 ranking in the all time best programs list...

"Pitt should easily be ranked higher. The decades of low winning percentage hurts for this ranking."

I remember reading that on ESPN a few days ago. We were 13th and given credit for 4 national titles. I'm surprised Pitt wasn't up in arms because they only got credit for 5. But if you look at the list it also has teams like Wittenberg and Linfield, both of whom have been as relevant at Pitt in major college football for the last 50 years.

Why doesn't PSU officially claim the other two? I was wondering that when I looked at the article.

We're not claiming national championships from more than 100 years ago when 50 different regional magazines claimed 50 different national championships. And none of the writers ever saw any team play but the ones they covered. And half of those were given to whichever team paid them the most for favorable coverage.

Well said. Many Pitt fans claim they’re ready for the “rivalry” to end and excited to renew their rivalry with WVU. I don’t know how sincere they are, but I look forward to the renewal of “The Backyard Brawl”. Pitt/WVU is a far more appropriate rivalry with more similar fan bases.
