Pitt finishes 137th in Directors Cup. Worst athletic progams in P5.

Me or him? I took his to be dead serious.
So is the guy above saying we are intimidated by Michigan being sarcastic or generally believes that?
It’s easy to claim sarcasm when encountering a rebuttal. Given that it’s text and not spoken, kind of hard to always pickup the inflection.

I was far from serious...I was stating how Pitt fans would post. They’re always saying that everyone but them cheats, that’s why they can’t win. They accuse us of cheating in football, wrestling and women’s volleyball....but funny enough, not basketball. I wonder why we would cheat at minor sports like wrestling and volleyball, but not do it in a major sport like basketball. And since their basketball program has been significantly better than ours, using their logic, that means they cheat in basketball recruiting.

Read his post in conjunction with the one to which he was responding. Sarcasm in both. But I don't have a skin in the game so feel free to think as you wish.

Ok, didn’t see what he was responding to.
Thanks for the info (no sarcasm)

The funny thing is that in basketball the PSU men have a winning record all time head to head against Pitt. They are pittiful even in basketball.

Please take this opportunity to remember that Penn State is a basketball school.

Speak for yourself. The excitement of college sports is the chance to cheer for "lesser" programs. You are not a sports fan if you make a comment like this. Now you go to my Ignore wasteland.
Geezer: I get your point, but my guess is that you are making it from the perspective of a longtime PSU alum and/or fan. Which means you have enjoyed consistent football success over the years, and it has become part of your expectation.

Although I closely follow and support PSU, I look at this from the perspective of a Cal alum. Cal, like Stanford, participates in a raft of Olympic sports, and does pretty well in them. But I would trade all of that success for just one Pac 12 title in football, and a Rose Bowl appearance. Cal has not been in the Rose Bowl since January 1, 1959.

The over the top recruiting coverage, the big ego 17 year olds, the ESPN hype, the transfer nonsense is causing my interest in college football to decrease and my interest in the other “pure” sports to increase.

I'm old enough to remember when what Pitt (and Syracuse) did was relevant to Penn State's success. That hasn't been the case for decades now, so why bother paying attention to them?

Agreed. I could possibly understand if the game with them ever means anything. We lost game one and still killed them in recruiting. It’s over after this year, but I don’t think it will change to those who live near Pittsburgh. To the other alumni, they aren’t even an afterthought.

Um, we do play them this year.
Come on, do we really? There’s been absolutely no discussion about that on this board. Oh well I guess I’ll just have to visit the Lair for factual information about the upcoming game from now on.

So, once again, Stanford leads the way in the race to measure “Which University’s (Universities? :) ) ICAs are willing to sponsor the most activities that no one cares about”

Yippee for Stanford (and the PAC12)

Of course, this will be wonderful grist for the “Let’s thump out chests and give everyone a big raise” Mill at ICAs across the country.

Love ya stormin, if you weren't a guy, I'd be trying to get into your britches. Good post.

If so, what are we? The goal in college basketball is the NCAA tournament. Pitt has been there 26 times, nearly 3 times as often as us at 9. Of course, the answer to my question is that we are the dregs in men's basketball and I have little hope that will change long term.

However, Penn State has been to more final fours (1) than Pitt has (zero).

Pitt is (apparently) a basketball school and they are super mediocre at that too.

Quinnipiac is an up and comer in Field Hockey. New facilities. On the radar. In the top 15 for my kid.
Congrats to your kid, but if field hockey is their thing it’s no wonder no one has ever heard of them.

Best I can tell they don't have a field hockey team. Guess I now have to give them credit for something.

Sure, but don’t for a minute think that lyke is more fiscally responsible than Sandy.

Most here likely agree with you. I do not. To me the greatest insult you can give Pitt fans is to ignore them. The continuing posts about them leads their fans to believe they matter. I personally think, and I expect this will be a solitary opinion, that many here subconsciously feel inferior to Ohio State and Michigan and so they pick on Pitt as if to say "At least we're better than those guys." I will now exit this thread before those with pitchforks, or should I say Pittforks?:) and torches come after me.

Ignoring them is not fun, life is too short to not have fun. I agree, us making fun of them does lead their delusional fans to believe they matter... but that is so pathetic, it just provides us with more stuff to make fun of!

We also make fun of OSU and UM, but to a lesser degree because their fans aren't nearly as delusional and hateful as Pitt fans.

I don't get a newspaper anymore. So I can 't read the cartoons. Instead I go to The Lair.

I realize your opinion is by far the majority here, but I get no fun in picking on Pitt. They are too easy a target and life is also to short to waste my time on a
feeble foe. As to OSU and UM, while some here may make fun of them, they are the antithesis of Pitt athletically and their fans often make fun of us. Considering our record in football against both since joining the Big Ten (16-32), it is easy to understand why.

You are so fairgambit.

You are not the 1st person to suggest that, but I am not. As I said in another post, the comparison flatters me and insults him, but thank you all the same. FG was one of my favorite posters before he left, perhaps because I agreed with him on a lot of things. He left a few days before I started posting (after months of lurking) although I did not know it at that time. I've taken on a bit of his style, but there are others I also admire and I've tried to take on a bit of theirs as well. In any event, I hope FG returns soon, but I fear he has run off with Elizabeth Shue and will not be heard from again. :)

I, too, suspected that fairgambit had followed a path that others had taken and returned under a different name. I truly hope that he returns (probably closer to football season) and regales us with his special wit and charm.

In the meantime, I also suspect that Elisabeth Shue and Diane Lane have dropped off of his pedestal in favor of the wonderful Sissel Kr&^%$*bo. Someday I will learn to say/spell that Norwegian songbird's name.

I might be wrong, but I never gave it much thought that he'd return under a different name. It seems the reason many have done so is they were banned, or wore out their welcome. He had no issues I am aware of. I just did look back at his last post and he did say he might be back around the Pitt game. I hope so. I also note the Norwegian lady's picture. Nice, but I think I'd prefer a swinger to a singer. ;)
