Pitt player arrested

In a moment of clarity while pounding down some beer, Bookser realized Pitt football really does suck. He jumped into his car and tried to get out of Oakland as fast as he could but the cops got to him first. Maybe his next escape attempt will work out better for him.

People will only stay if they have a gun pointed at their head. To coin a phrase.

it's too bad the police records are out...pitt could have swept this under the rug similarly to when other players found trouble recently.

I wonder if this Bookser video will make it into the "things you can do in Pittsburgh video" Narduzzi tweeted out earlier today. RUN FROM THE COPS

He also complained that the cops were holding him on every play.

Yes, given the Carter situation, calling US "Last Chance U" would seem to be counter-intuitive. But then again, intelligence has never been a staple of the Lair lifestyle.

I would say they have a culture problem at Pitt but is drug dealing on a corner in Oakland Culture? I'll take the cow fields every time.

Suspended for the first game, back for the Penn State game. "Hope you learned your lesson, young man!"

(It isn't going to matter)

Depending on his past offenses, plan may be a quick stint in rehab, a few extra laps (countered by a few extra cheeseburgers) and back to prep for PSU.

If the punishment decision is made within the Athletics Department, I don't see him missing the game in Beaver Stadium.

They could make a real statement by suspending him for our game with them, since him playing is likely to be the difference between losing by 40 or by 42. But Pat's too dumb to figure that out.

What will play a role in this will be what happens in the court system, though. If he pleads down to a nothing offense, it will all go away like it always does in Oakland. If the DA decides to make a bigger deal of it, then Coach Pat may have no choice but to take a stand.

Being pulled over at gunpoint demonstrates that:

1. Something very bad had transpired/was ongoing;

2. Bookser was brainless;

3. The police feared they were in imminent danger.

This is probably the second most frightening scenario for authorities aside from a domestic.

Not sure what the school or coach will do but you do not even lose your license for a 1st offense. It is a fine and they let you go. The other offenses will come out whenever his trial is. FYI

Someone under 21 doesn't lose their license for a DUI and running from the police? That seems hard to believe.

Players’ transgressions represent tough times for Pitt, Narduzzi

May 16, 2017 by Jerry DiPaola

I’m guessing Pitt coach Pat Narduzzi is tired of issuing statements. It’s the off-season in college football, a time of relaxation, careful planning for the season and recruiting (always recruiting).
But in the month since Pitt’s spring game, Narduzzi’s program has been smudged by the dismissal of senior defensive tackle Jeremiah Taleni for unspecified violation(s?) of team rules and junior guard Alex Bookser’s DUI.
Those two cases emerged two years after Narduzzi suspended Tyler Boyd and Rori Blair for the 2015 opener after DUI arrests earlier that year.
None of this is a good look for a program that largely rid itself of such embarrassing transgressions after coaches Paul Chryst and Narduzzi were hired this decade.
Narduzzi was rough on Taleni, a projected starter who patiently waited his turn during four years of mostly sitting the bench. Narduzzi had no comment on the nature of Taleni’s case, other than a brief statement released by the school. But you have to believe he acted in the best interest of the program.
The safe assumption is he will do the same with Bookser, a returning starter on the offensive line.
Boyd and Blair (who is still on the team and could win a starting job this season) were suspended for one game for incidents that didn’t involve other vehicles. Bookser’s car hit two parked cars (one that was attended) and a building in Oakland. Is that worth a two-game suspension? Three? Will Bookser be forced to miss two of the most important games of the season — Penn State and Oklahoma State — during Weeks 2 and 3?
Maybe.
Much will depend on the court’s disposition of the case and Bookser’s amount of contrition, which is considerable, according to Narduzzi.
Pitt has little experienced depth on the offensive line beyond the five starters. In the spring, Narduzzi had praise for backup guard Justin Morgan, a 6-foot-6, 355-pound redshirt freshman. August training camp and the regular season, however, present more serious obstacles.
But what is most troubling to Narduzzi and his coaching staff is this:
Bookser knows better. This didn’t have to happen.
In this age of increased awareness of the dangers of DUI, getting behind the wheel of the car while impaired is what it is — stupid.

I'll be shocked if he misses our game, particularly given that Officer is a question mark. That said, YSU is a sucker game. If Pitt isn't ready to go, they could lose that one.

Pa. has a 3 tier DUI system. It depends on what his BAC was. Fleeing, and wrecking another vehicle are serious offenses. It's hard to believe he wont lose his license from btn 30-90 days, even on a first offense. His fine will also be tied to his BAC and what tier he falls under.

Nardoosh has a problem.

Well there seems to be a history of it with Nardouchie. Just look at all the trouble MSU is in now, that just didn't happen over night. Dare I say it MSU/Pitt, Dantonio/Nardouchie have a "culture" about them. Apparently its win at all costs.

Wasn't there a story before the MSU scandal where Nardogg said he wanted to use MSU as the model for Pitt?

People I've known that got DUIs were given 6 month suspensions and enrollment in ARD. And as said, Bookser's incident involved a whole lot more, 8 charges total that will be plea bargained down quite a bit. If Narduzzi only gives Bookser a slap on the wrist, you have to wonder what Telani did to be dismissed.

According to the morally bankrupt knuckle dragging hypocrites on the Liar - a DUI is no big deal an if it happened at PSU it would be swept under the rug. Those idiots are the gift that keeps on giving. PSU is Satan but if the same thing happens at Pitt, no big deal, let him play for gods sake hasn't the poor player suffered enough, which I guess in retrospect might be true since he is at Pitt and plays for that god awful coach and those loser fans what few of them their are.

Let's hope this kid doesn't do this again. I live in Pittsburgh, and as far as I'm concerned anybody who gets a DUI and is near my wife and kids, they can take the bus for the next 20 years.

Taleni's dismissal was reportedly non-criminal, so I'd think it was for an infraction that was set by the athletic department - see: Noah Beh, or a former defensive tackle for us who will be suiting up for Pitt this fall.

I am a senior at main this next academic yr and have a friend who was caught with a DUI. He had a partial scholarship and was not reprimanded by PSU. He had to pay a fine and go to classes once a week for a few weeks.

First off, let me be the first to welcome you to the board. It's not easy for a Pitt guy to navigate the extensive BWI enrollment process, so for that you can be proud.

Secondly, nice first post. We will give it the type of serious consideration that it deserves.

Things have really gone downhill in trolldom, and the current state of affairs regarding trolling efficacy seems to reflect that.

They're lost. Their football program is in shambles, what with the depleted roster (poor recruiting, no one wanting to play there), their lack of an on-campus stadium, and their criminal culture. On top of that heap of negativity and nothingness, they know they have lost the "Joe Knew" screaming-meemies because the facts aren't on their side, and they are further diminished by the fact that Penn State continues to distance itself from pitt.

Tough times in oakland, but they always are.
