Pitt's Jordan Whitehead declares for NFL draft

This was expected. He's a good athlete who had a really underwhelming career at Pitt. He's a second day pick and will likely be a contributor at the next level. He may work his way into the starting lineup as well. A team will get a good value in the 3rd or 4th for him.

That's a guy who definitely made a mistake not going to Penn State. He could have been starting next to Marcus Allen for 3 years, winining Big 10 titles, and playing in major bowl games.

His college career was a waste.

It all depends on his combine numbers.. He has the tools and athleticism to excel in the NFL as the steal of the draft.

I think he's comparable to our own Adrian Amos. Amos is a little bigger, but I think they are comparable guys. Amos was a steal for the Bears in the 4th and is their starter. Whitehead could be a steal for a team in the mid rounds as well, which is where I expect him to go, third or fourth.

He's a talented kid but his off field concerns will scare some people. He's not very physical. I'm thinking he is a late round pick to be honest.

No worries for the pitters. Narduzzi's superb 2018 recruiting class will provide a ready replacement for Whitehead. After all, they are ranked #65 in the country, with no 4 or 5 star recruits. Most of their recruits were stolen from Akron, IUP, Toledo, etc. It's not wonder the squeaky talking pitt AD gave Narduzzi millions more Pa Taxpayer dollars to stay at pitt. He is a recruiting and game day genius.

If NFL personnel guys are going to be scared by a player with a hot urine test or two, they aren't going to be in the business too long.

Pitt is going to suck again next year. Losing Henderson, Whitehead, and O'Neil. Replacing them with Narduzzi's lousy recruiting.

He has the Pitt fanbase completely fooled. Here is how his recruiting works

1. Offer local kids and kids all over the area early
2. Fail on 95% of these offers other that 1/2 local kids that do not want to leave PGH.
3. After missing on original offers, throw 2nd or 3rd round of offers in May at lower rated recruits
4. Land plethora of mediocre recruits in June
5. Go into season with low rated recruiting class but recruit little because you do not want recruits at your lowly attended games
6. End of the year, target kids who were once highly thought of but teams soured on or processed.
7. Bring these kids in and hope they get desperate because once commitable offers are gone
8. Pitt fans brag about Pitt being a closer without realizing what just happened

Their fanbase buys it every time and doesn't realize what is happening right in front of them
It's no wonder why Narduzzi wants to stay forever

You forgot to mention that one of those two local kids often times ends up being a 4-star recruit (Whitehead, Hamlin, Ford) and every Pitt fans does nothing but focus on that one kid because they think that kid is going to be the one that saves the program. This past season it was Ford, who posters on the Lair were convinced would have been the difference in basically every game while refusing to admit that he was likely not even eligible to play.

It's just sad. They recruit one kid considered a stud each year and they lose their minds over that one kid.

His decision making is obviously very poor, he actually CHOSE to play at Pitt.

With all due respect, Amos has been a disappointment in Chicago. Decent run support, but is lost in passing situations.

Was a starter in 2015 & 2016, but lost his starting role in August. Regained his starting position well into this season only because of an injury. Had his first NFL interception this year (which he returned about 80 yds for a TD). He’s missed the last two games with an injury, not sure if he’ll play again this year. Think it’s a hamstring.

His 2018 roster spot with the Bears is probably TBD with a new coaching staff expected to come in and start fresh.

The fact that Narduzzi will be around for 7 more years probably hurt recruiting more than helped it.

The odd thing is, with so many job openings this year, just about every P5 coach was in one rumor or another, except for Narduzzi. He was literally the only one not mentioned. He probably figured he'd better get extension while he still could. Pitt's AD figured she probably extend him, while he's still so damned cheap. Truth is, they probably added some years onto the deal at no more money, since they did not release the figures. He breathes a sigh of relief, as does she. And they both lose.

Doesn’t the history of Pitt football simply recruit for itself without Narduzzi having to do anything but sit by and watch the fax machine?

Pat Narduzzi's extension was propaganda and an attempt to stop the recruiting bleeding by Pitt. There was no money or buyout which is why it's never been mentioned. It was an agreement between the parties to make it look like the two sides were committed to stop negative recruiting. Pitt fans bought it hook, line, and sinker.

How else would it have been leaked to Sports illustrated? Pitt fans claim Narduzzi has no agent, so their AD picked up the phone, called old Pete Thamel of SI and told him they are working on a 7 yr extension

It's sad, it's like two people who don't want to be together, but pretend they love each other in public.
