Pittsburgh Wrestling Classic

Starocci 174, Brooks 184, Beard 197.

Carter knew this was the plan when he committed and is disciplined, so we can view this year as him wrestling up a weight for the challenge.
Bo went from 174 to 184 to 197 over 5 years. Cenzo has held 165 for 3 years. It will be interesting to see if Carter is more Cenzo or Bo like. Is he cutting from 200 like Cenzo?

No inside info, but I don't think he's walking around at 200 or close to it. He wrestled 160 as a HS junior and doesn't have a large frame. About the size of Mark Hall?

Anderson is one of the more creative offensive wrestlers from District 11 in the past 20 years. He has a good arsenal. In recent years Sasso was pretty loaded. Excluding Oliver and his all around ability, the Eckloff boys were pretty creative and always had the Flying Cement Mixer in their back pocket.
It will be interesting where Anderson slides in weight wise. It doesn't look like he makes cutting weight an issue.

Anderson at 141 I’m college likely wouldn’t be a hard cut, body type says he could make 133, but is Anderson healthy and comfortable and static at 149 not out of contention?

Something will have to give -- either Carr moves up to 165, or Dresser juggles Parker and Degen shirting, or somebody sits a year.

133 Gomez RSFR
141 Parker SO
149 Degen SO
157 Straw JR, Carr FR

HR posters constantly complain about the PSU Slush Fund and think it’s the only way Cael could possibly
get so many top P4P wrestlers at once. I’ve read where many former Hawkeye greats ( Royce Alger, Steiner brothers off the top of my head) took a fraction of the full scholarship offers they were offered elsewhere, just to have a chance to wrestle for Gable and Iowa. But they refuse to believe great kids come to Penn State for the same reason. The delusion and hatred of some makes HR unreadable.

I have attempted in vain to demonstrate how giving out an average of .75 scholarships to your top recruits can easily cover Penn Stat's roster and if you factor in grey shirting, the number can be higher. They just bury there head in the sand and demonstrate their ignorance by trying to tell me all those guys should be getting full scholarships. Just goes to show how little they actually know because full scholarships are rare at the top schools.

Please ..... go on.

We have all day to listen.

In regard to the Morningstar allegations, I would guess it has something to do with illegal contact of high school underclassmen. Iowa has gotten a lot of verbals from Sophomore and Juniors over the last few year after rarely getting any.

It hasn't been decided yet which weight Carr will take next year. I know the thought is Carr will end up at 165 in the future even if he spends one year at 157. Degen will probably move to 157 after next year or even as soon as next year. Kevin is trying to upgrade the talent in the room across the board, so there may end up being good battles for starting spots. The thing I see that has changed the most at ISU is KD works very hard to foster a tight nit group of guys that really pull for one another. We have a long way to go as a program, but progress is being made everyday. I can't say enough good things about DSJ and Brent and the work they are doing. I hope we can keep Miklus in Ames as he has that warm disposition and outgoing personality that draws recruits and helps build unity. We are not PSU and there is much to be done but it is exciting to be a Cyclone wrestling fan. I know the guys that have gotten to know Ryan Anderson are stoked to have him as a Cyclone.

The thing I have found the most weird is what a compassionate, kind person Metcalf is and how positive toward the young guys he acts. I guess I expected him to be way more fire and way less ice. I can't wait to witness the nutrition debates between he and Anderson. I think those two will become very close and I know Brent is excited to help him grow in the sport.

dont talk brent up too much....the HR resistance will have him in IC in 2022 after spencer graduates without a team title

If this is true, then we all know Starocci is too small for 174. ;)

I couldn't tell if this is tongue-in-cheek or not. If so, I apologize for missing the joke. If not, aren't these types of posts that are claiming illegal recruitment exactly the type of thing that the HR posters get blasted for?

Well to be accurate, the allegation is being made by a life-long Iowa State fan who happens to post here & also cheers for PSU on the side.

This is the first one of its kind I've ever seen on our board. Over on HR, its become like a bodily function to impugn Cael's character.

There is always jabs at the Hawks and tOSU on here, but most are lighthearted and in good fun. That was why this one was a surprise to me, also surprised that no one else had said anything about it yet.

It just strikes me as very odd that HR clowns throw accusations toward Cael of doing exactly what Iowa is doing. I'm guessing at least some of these people know it is happening and figure Cael is doing even more of the same stuff. M* is a snake..plain and simple. I wondered how a guy with his credentials became the assistant, but it can't be easy to find a guy sleazy enough to throw caution to the wind and go after the young kids. If you ain't cheatin' you ain't tryin' I suppose.

Come on.

There is an entire website devoted to non-specific cheating allegations against teams and questioning the morals of wrestling coaches.

Feel free to take this over there where it belongs.
