What kind of seed is he going to get at B1G with a most one conference match? Let’s say he comes back for the last two duals, gets a rough draw, and gets bounced early from B1G. Does that put at risk the potential for medical redshirt?

Logic would indicate he is done for the year. Why risk it now so late in the year my guess is no. My heart at this point is saying no don't want to watch him struggle would rather watch a fully healthy and seasoned Berge

Probably a very low seed. If I get time I'll run thru B10 standings at 157 -- but at first glance, 157 is pretty deep top-to-bottom.

If he competes again at any point this year, the medical hardship will be off the table.

EDIT: I looked up the records, and the bottom of B10 seeding is nearly impossible to predict right now due to lineup instability at OSU, PSU, and Wisconsin. (And Purdue if Coleman remains out with a concussion.)

The top 9 look pretty set, though their order could change a bit. Deakin, Young, Lewan, Robb, Coleman, Tucker, Thomas, Barone, Van Brill. Thomas and Barone could flip, especially if Coleman sits vs. Illinois.

After that, in God only knows what order: OSU (Cleary or Kinner?), Maryland (Jones), Wisconsin (Scharenbrock or Model), PSU (Pipher or Berge), Indiana (Silva). Of them, only Cleary and Jones even have 2 conference wins.

Of that pool, Berge and Pipher have by far the best wins (non-con vs. Humphreys and Hartman). After that, this group's best wins were over Barone and Van Brill.

I can't see Berge being below SIlva (1-8 B10 duals, 3-12 B10 overall, 8-17 vs. all D1). If Coleman is out, then his backup would be below Silva. After that, anybody's guess.

I just hope he recovers fully. Brain injuries are no joke. Look how long it took Sidney Crosby to come back.

I doubt he comes back this year.

why is this even a poll after all the speculation already ...just somebody call Berge up and ask him

My son had several bad concussions from wrestling then football. There is no time table, just hope he gets health. Also sounds like he is dealing with a neck problem as well.

One bit of inside info I do have ... I’m pretty sure Michael Beard’s red shirt is not being pulled tonight. I saw him in line at the Waffle Shop on North Atherton late this morning. Unless his weight cut is much different than any one I ever had, he’s probably not stepping on the scale tonight

My opinion (and it might not be popular) is that unless there are injuries, combined with an epic collapse, nobody is beating Iowa this year (). Let’s save Beard for a year it might come down to one wrestler getting points.
Furthermore, if there’s any question about his long-term health, I’d have no problem not seeing him on the mat again. I’ve seen first hand what can happen when a head injury goes wrong.

I don’t think there’s a Penn State wrestler as consistently underestimated by Penn State fans as Berge.

Deakin would be an obvious favorite over him. Young, I need to see (although I think only the dimmest bulbs on HR would be happy about a Berge/Young matchup in round 1).

Assuming he’s healthy and fit - and I don’t believe the coaches would send him out there if he weren’t - there is zero reason to think his season could come to an end at Big 10s.

On paper, that's a totally legitimate opinion. But it's not over until @mike tognetti 's sister sings.

No underestimation of Berge here. Just an acceptance that he has wrestled seven minutes in the last six months.

There are only two ways his wrestling makes sense to me: a. it’s what he and his family want, and b. we have a ‘57 who will be ready in two years.

I am going to say......Brady will be back tonight...………...would you believe I typed this at 6:00pm and forgot to hit "send"? :)

EJ. The Medical hardship was never actually on the table. His redshirt year was a choice not an injury. It takes two lost injury years usually.

If the NCAA would let you ask about their recent wavering on that rule and see if he could get one, then maybe it is on the table. But they don’t so it effectively has never been an option.

but.....Ashnault gives some hope, huh?

Berge is good enough to get in the top 6 at B10s
