I know that many here hold grudges against the B1G for the way we've been treated. I'm not going to get into that. What I do want to discuss is the perception of the conference in comparison to others, specifically the SEC.

The SEC is a brotherhood from top to bottom. If a 6-6 SEC team beats a 6-6 B1G team in a bowl game, you'll hear SEC..SEC..SEC at the end of the game. It's an announcement of their conference's dominance over another conference.

I believe the B1G is as good or better than the SEC at this present time and I was wondering if it should be announced at every game after we play another Power 5 foe.

So there's the debate. Should we start chanting Big Ten..Big Ten..Big Ten at the end of a win over another conference team? Would such a chant raise the profile of the league as a whole and create a brotherhood that bonds B1G teams together and possibly provide added inspiration when playing another conference?

I voted no. It's more of a deep-rooted Southern thing, them against the world, that plays into the SEC chants. I also think it's kind of lame for fans of a lesser team to point to their in-conference big brother and talk smack based on someone else's accomplishments. Without getting into the whole thing, I have less than zero affinity for the Big Ten and would just never think to chant for the conference. It'd feel wrong

It’s very annoying, yes. They chant SEC after conference games. Ive heard SEC chants break out in bars in February, July, etc... it’s all they have.

It is called brain washing and the SEC has done a good job.

The BIG is improving but may be too late.

I say if we beat a SEC team in a bowl game we should chant SEC...SEC...SEC while laughing at their brotherhood.

When the leaders of the B1G stop acting as though it’s the big 2 and everyone else and start treating all schools equally only then can any sense of brotherhood and camaraderie begin to grow.

Last night on The Big Show Urban referred to "The Big 3." He was referencing O$U, PSU and Michigan as the major schools in the B1G (east).

Chant for this closed-minded, biased, hate-filled conference? You GOT to be kidding...I voted NO. I can't believe you WANT to debate this!
We're in it for the money...nothing else! Otherwise FqqK Delaney and the Scumbag B10.

Nice of him to include PSU but it shouldn't be the big 2, 3 or 7. It's the Big Ten - simple as that - include all the teams as they're all major universities. You never hear of the big 2-4 or whatever in the SEC.

Check the employment numbers and economic growth rates

Check the state of northern vs southern auto manufacturing

It's already happened

If there's one thing I look at, when judging the comparative merits of particular regions, it's auto manufacturing.

And "rising again" refers to secession and slavery, or whatever their backward thinking dreams up next.

Which is it? It's not exactly like those two options are similar. I'd wager that the ratio of those wanting to secede versus those wanting to reinstate slavery is about 1,000,000/1.

Yet why haven't they changed the name to the BIG 14? It's because only their chosen 2 matter.

Sorry, it is impossible to feel inferior to northern trash!!! And obviously, you are NOT "better than that" for stating it!!!

if they were better they would have won the war. They are losers.
BTW I never said I was better, just that they felt inferior.

Not only that -- but hell, no!!!

I always hope Ohio State and Michigan not only lose but are humiliated in the process. (Except this week against Wisconsin when we need the Bucks to win big -- which likely means they won't.)

But I can't work up the same disgust for the other teams in the conference. They're like victims of the Stockholm Syndrome...conditioned after long decades of abuse to be grateful to their captors for whatever crumbs are left on the table.

None of the big ten teams offered any help or even a shoulder to cry on while we went through hell. They decided to kick us while we were down and steal millions from us. **** all of them, their teams, their fans, the alumni. The nice friendly people you see when you go to their stadiums...

They rat****ed us and stole from us and I will never forgive or forget.

You can't go back from what happened. It happened.

I despise the BigTen. Aside from Penn State, I hope every member school loses every sporting event out of conference from now until the end of time. Spare me the "a strong BigTen helps Penn State" bullcrap. I don't buy it and even if I did, I don't give a damn. If we win the games we need to win we don't need to lean on the reputation of this d'bag conference.

The B10 will always be the Big 2 and the rest. It will never change until the conference doesn’t exist anymore.

Don't look now but that big 2 membership is slowly changing from OSU/Mich. to OSU/PSU. At least in fact we're the only one giving them a game each year.

Well said.

Lol I think the SEC chant is garbage. It is just a bunch of manipulated SEC fans. They simply watch to much of the hype train on ESPN...

F No. Leave the chanting to the southern clowns that live vicariously through the success of some other school's team.

It’s the only three letters that they know and they can’t really spell any real words so what do you expect?

This might be the most proof there is on how horrible college football is at crowning a champ.

We should basically hate all the teams in our conference. That is true rivalry.

We shouldnt be rooting for our conference members because it somehow justifies how good your team is.

Eagles fans how do you feel about the Cowboys, Redskins and Giants? Do you want chant NFC East after a win?

Steelers fans same question about the Bengals, Browns and Ravens...AFC North, AFC North, AFC North.

You can do this in every sport, conference and division and only college football asks us to have loyalty to our conference. Screw that. I hope Michigan gets stomped. I will be rooting hard to see Ohio St get taken to the wood shed.

There are times that Pens fans have to root for the Flyers and vice versa. It feels dirty, wrong and unnatural. Just the way it should.

Someone hit on a key point. Many of the SEC states do not have or didn’t have for many years a pro football team in their state. So conference loyalty is huge and all they have.

Bama/Auburn- yes ATL is close
Arkansas
USC
Tenn - not all still embrace Titans
Ole Miss/MSU

Not going to go through all. Some other SEC teams obviously have NFL teams in their state. UGA, UF, Missouri, A&M.

Many of B1G schools also have close by pro team allegiances so while respective school locality is important; conference loyalty is not anywhere as important.

The poll probably shouldn’t have asked if Big 10 schools should chant for each other, but should SEC schools stop chanting for each other.

Yes, in spades.

It works to our advantage for the conference teams to do well against teams of other conferences. That's just common sense. We don't have to chant squat, but we should be smart enough to root for outcomes that benefit PSU in both the short and long run.

In theory, yes. But honestly, 26 years in, I'm still waiting for even one "benefit," short- or long-run, that has come to Penn State's football program from the success or failure of other Big-10 teams against non-conference competition -- or for that matter, bigger picture, from membership in this conference.
