... BoBar could be a finalist ... Someday ...
If BoBa 'Lett takes on the job, he completes it. Everyone in the galaxy knows that. :)

Has anybody actually said he'd be a 149 finalist?

Or did somebody say he'd be the best 149, and it got interpreted as nationally instead of in the PSU room?

Yeah. I don't think anyone is setting the bar at 'finalist' for 149. If we could get a guy on the podium this year that would be a nice upgrade on where were in 2018 and most likely 2019.

We have plenty of potential finalist at other weights.

We have Bergie, Piph and Gardner, all CAPABLE of qualifying (well at least with a 33 man bracket, lol)
I'm taking bear claw at 57 I think he can put on a lot of muscle and not have to cut which will be a benefit. Either him or boone is not much of a drop off in our room

I’d be fine with Bearclaw, he was impressive Tue.
Havent seen or heard much post- HS chatter about Boone.
Piph and Gardner are always right there in matches too.

No. I meant if Bartlett competes at 149 for Penn State this season, he will be better than most other teams' 149 pounders.

I second this comment.

Sorry if this is common knowledge, but Beau Bartlett is one of 12 wrestlers, going back to the 1960s, that have won 4 National Prep titles. I believe they were at 120, 126, 132 (over SVN?), and 138. Recently, Joey McKenna, Myles Martin, Kyle Snyder, and Michael Beard won 3 national prep titles, just for some perspective.

I say Verk.

Based on the fact that college wrestling fans often overrate freshman and often underrate returning starters who were mediocre the previous year.

Verk will improve.

Very little talk of Busiello on this thread, just checked Track this morning...he's ineligible

From my untrained eye I didn't see much improvement from 2019 to 2020. 5-6 to end the season and a 9th place finish at Bigs doesn't give me confidence he's on a good trajectory in folk.

I'm not saying he won't improve, maybe someone here can detail what he can do to reach the next level.

Barring a Nick Lee move to 49....curious if opinions have changed on who wins the 49 spot.

Results of the poll were pretty evenly split between Beau and Verk, with some also picking Bearclaw. Guessing opinions have shifted toward Beau, but thought I’d ask.

If he beats Verk by 4 points or more consistently, beau has to go

If we are going to play the guess from social media game I will give it a try and make terrible satire predictions off of that:

10 weeks ago he felt good to be back in State College: we can assume he is a student at Penn State
8 weeks ago he posted a headshot: probably confirms he is on the wrestling team
5 weeks ago he was grateful: met with Cael Sanderson to discuss philosophy of program
2 weeks ago getting vitamin D in snow: building up immune system to get ready for season
5 days ago wondering about walk out song: would only need one if he is starting (just saying)
Today doing flips: can only assume it was the extra 8 lbs of muscle that allows him to rotate all the way through (or he is light enough that he doesn't need the muscle)

I know this means basically nothing, but Wrestlestat has Lee at #1 at 149.

With a free year in the mix, I bet we see a number of different lineups before a decision is made, much less made public.

In a typical season, I’d completely agree. However, given how ridiculously short this season will be, things might be a bit different in how they approach it.

What really sucks is C3 wont know how these guys fare in a tournament setting, which is the most important thing IYAM.

With Nick Lee purportedly walking around at 145, I have to wonder how much weight he’ll be giving up to some 149lb guys. I have to imagine it’ll be most of 10lbs. Maybe more.

To play Devil's Advocate. At 41, Nick could lose to Rivera or Eierman, though I would still favor Nick, he'd be a slight fave. At 49, he's a massive favorite over the whole field.

All of that said, he's earned the right to choose, IMO.
