Stevo has released the 5 schools he has been in contact with the most:

PSU
Lehigh
NC State (visited)
Ohio State (visited)
Okie State

Per flo, he plans on taking all his allotted visits before making a decision. They also make quite a connection with NC State that I did not know; Pat Pops brother Frank, is an assistant at Stevo’s highschool and runs the journeymen wrestling club where he trains.

PSU - as close to a slam dunk as there is IMO. The only thing that can change the landscape is if we land Richie Figs which is a long shot

Haven’t really seen anything on Figs decision. I think Gilman entices him and other lightweights quite considerably. Hopefully we land one of Figs is Stevo (would love to see both of them be lions but not sure that can happen)

No idea why you would say that unless you know something that is not public.

Viewing this with no inside information there is no reason I'd view it as a slam dunk. In fact I'd think the NC State connection there would be difficult to overcome if they push hard. Also, no clue on finances and in certain situations Lehigh can present a very attractive package given their FA funding.

Figs also seems to be fair game at this point

Hi Dice! What's FA funding?

That plus how he prioritized his visits ... there are 2 schools on his list which he could do as a day trip. He has visited neither. Obviously doesn't rule out PSU, but also not a slam dunk.

Interesting that he wrestled at the Bethlehem Holiday Classic and at Beast, and did not visit Lehigh either time.

funding, grants. A star in the classroom and the mat will almost always get an academic scholarship at Lehigh if the coach wants him.

Is there a gap between Fig and Poulin or is getting either one just fine ?

Also. Would they have a few years at 125 OR just one / 2 ?

Figs beat Poulin 8-1 this year. Both wrestled 113. IIRC they're both widely viewed as career 125s. If we can't get Figs, Poulin is the next best 125 in 2021, and not a consolation prize.

Another name to watch is Joey Cruz (CA 2022). He is publicly interested in PSU (+ 3 other schools). He and Figs have wrestled often, always close, and Cruz has won at least once.

Figs and Poulin are both great High School wrestlers, But I am concerned about how Poulin"s size will translate to college, he just seems small to deal with college 125's. I don't have the same concerns with Figs he seems to have a much bigger frame..

They are both high school up-and-coming Seniors, and Cruz (mentioned above in another post) is a Junior. That's one full year for Figueroa and Poulin, plus a redshirt year to adjust to college, if any happen to choose Penn State. Impossible to predict two years of growth at that age, except maybe to look at their parents.

Poulin attends the high school about 3 miles down the road from me. Not an insider by any stretch, but as I have noted in previous posts, Popolizio at NC State has strong connections in the area. With Jakob Camacho being a RS freshman in 2019-20, not sure how hard NC State will push for Poulin. But if Popolizio pushes hard, as I expect, NC State will be tough be beat.

I'd have to agree with this assessment.

In addition to the Pop connection, you also have to factor in that he would have like 3-4 of his high school teammates also in Raleigh.

There is that natural comfort level aspect that gives them a leg up in his recruitment.

I think Poulin has only one former high school teammate on the NC State squad, but there are three others on the roster from nearby high schools in the area. So your point stands.

Shanahan is already there; Del Signore is verbally committed...And I thought I heard Dorfman might be leaning there.

That was where I got my number...

But as you said, teammates and/or clubmates= same difference :)

He could of visited both schools on his own dime since they're so close and wouldn't count as an official visit.

I'd be delighted with someone like Jordan Conaway

HS:
6th in PIAA AAA 103 as a sophomore
3rd at 112 as a junior
1st at 112 as a senior

Was successful at 126 and even 133 at PSU; not a champ but pretty darn good and reliable

Good information, but the Penn State attraction is mighty. Kids recruited by Cael & company pause, look hard at all aspects of wrestling for a team that will contend, check out the university (academics), then wrap in other very important considerations ... location, $$$'s, connection to other wrestlers in the program, etc.

Not saying this isn't similar to all recruits at all programs. Nor am I saying Penn State will get every recruit it approaches. I am saying that recent success is a selling point that no team can match, giving Penn State that extra oomph. This place is special right now, just an observation from someone close enough that it's more than a hunch :).
