Yes, I'm nervous about this game...as I am about all games except for the Kent States of the world. Wisconsin is a good team. They have some good players. And they're on a roll while playing in the spotlight at home.

But I think we've got too much talent and speed across the board...plus we're coming in on an emotional high of our own after the come-from-behind win over USC...plus Drew found something in himself to lead that comeback featuring not one but two hair-raising 4th-down throws on the final drive in regulation. Making plays like that puts something good in a QB's head.

In the end, the Badgers are starting a back-up QB who has performed like a back-up. He makes mistakes. I think we're going to get pressure on him. I think we're going to take away their run early on. I think Drew is going to have a big game, which will loosen things up for Nick and Kaytron.

I think Wisconsin will come in pumped and the emotional rush may keep things respectable in the first half..but I think we establish control at some point in the 2nd quarter and pull away in the 2nd half. I see a nice win heading into the Lions Den against the mighty Buckeyes.

Then again, I could be wrong...

Jerry - you predict 31-10 and you claim you are nervous? I'm going with 24 - 17 with Wisconsin driving at the end. Now that's nervous! lol...

I think you are close. Could be 31-17 or 31-14. Penn State wins by at least two scores.

Allar will show he has matured and will carry the momentum from USC on to this game.

Can PSU win 31-10?

Of course they can but the only teams PSU beat by 21 pts are WVa and Kent. Wisconsin is better than those teams and the game is in Madison. There's a reason why PSU is only favored by 6 pts.

I'm like you thinking PSU has the talent waiting to break out. It just hasn't happened yet. An early score by our defense might be the spark we need.

Penn State is more than capable of beating Wisconsin by 14+ points. Wisconsin is getting a lot of smoke for their last 3 victories, this being a night game at Camp Randall and PSU previous performances coming off a bye week. The predictions of this being a close game or an upset are solely based on the presumption that PSU will be the same creature of the past. I'm not one to live in the past. There is nothing that has showed me that PSU should be on upset alert. Home field advantage is very important, but it's not that important if you don't have the talent to match with your opponent, Wisky does not have that talent. Wisky also allowed Purdue to have more total offense then them. Is Wisky capable of taking away Tyler Warren, and control the ground game at the same time. If Singleton is healthy i don't see that being possible. Wisky will not contain Warren with man coverage and be able to commit enough other resources to stop the run and contain the other receivers. I think it takes a quarter to get settled if at all. When the final whistle blows I think the score sits around 34-17. Wisky gets exposed we march onto Ohio State...

Wouldn't shock me if it were to play out that way.

Honestly, it wouldn't shock me to win by only a field goal.

It would shock me if Wisconsin won this game.

See, I'm trying to cover all bases here... ;)

Agreed, we're capable of winning big. It's a question of playing to our full potential. I'm not sure we've done that yet this season.

But sometimes a win of the kind we got at USC breaks a team through. In fact, if you look at some of our great teams of the past, you'll typically see a game during the season that we could have lost...should have lost...almost lost...but found a way to win. USC was hopefully that game for this year's team.

We'll find out this evening.

I'm with the 2+ TD win group. Wisky has run their record up against the bottom feeders of the B10. As long as PSU doesn't lose the turnover battle I see a reasonably comfortable win in the hostile night game environment.....

Well I was pretty close on the predicted score, but if you had told me that Drew would be sitting out the 2nd half with an injury, I think my calculations would probably have been different.

The game played out close to what I predicted but I certainly wasn't expecting to get there with Pribula at QB.

IIRC I predicted:
Score 24-17 which was pretty close
PSU with 230 yds passing and 170 yds rushing which was also pretty close

I thought this was a good matchup for PSU because I think we're better against the run than we are against the pass. Locke isn't very good and that's how it played out.

I was disappointed about our inability to run the football. I know the final rushing total was 173 yds but a lot of that came in the last 3+ minutes of the game. Singleton had 12 carries for 49 yds. Allen had 11 carries for 81 yds which is very good but it included a 24 yd TD run with 3:10 remaining and 19 yds on the last play of the game. They all count but for most of the game we couldn't do much on the ground.

I was also disappointed about the continuing trend of not being able to score in the first half even though we moved the ball effectively. The first drive is a perfect example. We went 54 yds and ended with a fumbled snap. The 3rd drive was killed by a holding penalty. For some reason this has become a chronic problem. Last week we scored 6 pts vs USC. This week 7 pts vs Wisconsin. We also only had 7 pts in the first half against Illinois (Oregon had 35 yesterday).

My 3rd issue is how often we give up 3rd and long plays. PSU brings the pressure and opponents know it. They counter with quick release passes into vacated open areas. I'm all for bringing pressure but I think we need to mix it up more. Another week and no sacks.

The most pleasant surprise was the play of Ford & Vilbert. IMO that's when the game really turned. They were getting into the Wisconsin backfield to make tackles like I remember from our great teams from the 80s.

Of course Pribula. Enough said. One play that surprised me was the 3rd and goal play from the 1 yd line. I expected PSU to play it safe with a 3rd pounding run by Warren. The pass to Dinkins was a bit of a ballsy call. That might have been a big confidence builder for Pribula going forward.

I just looked at the ESPN game predictor and it gives PSU a 39% chance to win next week. That seems better than what it was. I don't know if injuries are considered.

Solid analysis.

I share your concern about the running game. For much of the night, it looked like last year's edition, which never clicked. I thought Beau's entry into the game provided a spark. It forced Wisconsin to defend an additional running threat.

Here's the thing about bringing pressure. Nothing works better to disrupt an offense. But you have to get to the QB...at least force him to move...make him uncomfortable. When you bring pressure and it doesn't get home, you only create opportunities for an opponent's passing game.

Fortunately for us, their back-up QB is not very good. And his receivers were doing him no favors either. Overall, I thought our D played huge in the 2nd half. Just shut down Wisconsin's running game. In fact, that's what set up the critical pick-6. The Badgers had been going backwards on the ground, and their QB ended up making a bad throw into coverage.

Totally agree with you about Ford and Vilbert. As Blackledge commented on the broadcast, we've got athletes backing up athletes on the DL. Honestly, it didn't seem like we missed Dani all that much, though obviously I hope he's back next week.
