PSU actually played a better game last night. There’s a talent disparity, but PSU obviously has MSU’s number. MSU definitely has been “goalied” tonight.2nd period, good guys are up3-0. Domination!
It should be a great atmosphere at Pegula next weekend. I’m envious because my nephew will be there and I won’t.So a tie (shootout win) and a win on the road versus the #1 team feels like it should make a difference for our Pairwise ranking. I know we are around the edge but I'm wondering if we have a real shot at making the tournament.
Still two games against Minnesota next week is no small task. Need to win at least one of them.
We’re the hottest team in college hockey right now, and I think this team is better than the PSU team from two years ago that was one game short of the frozen 4. NO ONE is going to want to play us in the NCAA tournament if we make it. Need a split next weekend vs Minnesota and we need to beat Michigan in the first round of the big ten tournament. If we do both of those things, I think we’re in.It should be a great atmosphere at Pegula next weekend. I’m envious because my nephew will be there and I won’t.
I read on another site that a regulation PSU win tonight could move them up to 13 or 14 in Pairwise.
PSU has gotten incredibly hot at the right time, but it’s not a great team. However, the goalie is tough to beat and gives them a chance to win any game.
They never trailed all weekend to No. 1. That's a really good team with a really good, hot goalie and it means "more than a chance." They are literally the hottest team in college hockey. When they lost Sergeev in the fall, that led to the poor start in the B1G. Getting him back coincided with this hot stretch. It should be a great atmosphere at Pegula next weekend. This weekend of PSU Hockey again demonstrated that if your team has a hot goaltender, you have a legitimate chance to win each game. They never trailed all weekend to No. 1. 0-8-0-1 with 0 points in the standings Jan 1. (Sergeev missed all but the first two games IIRC.)
8-2-3-1 with 31 points since with two vs, Minny next week.
On Jan 5, we won our first B1G game and had 4 points. We were 14 points behind Michigan, 21 points behind Minny and Sparty. Now we are one behind UM and 13 behind Sparty and 15 behind Minny. That's a mountain of points to make up in six-seven weeks.
The PW hole they dug was significant. They are now on the bubble. Next weekend and the series vs Michiganistan will determine their fate. They are playing complete games and playing with confidence. I like their chances.
FWIW, they've avenged the fall swoon and beaten everyone in the league but Minny. And they get their chance next weekend.
