PSU-only Recruits & Commits news

Can’t find much on Sam, what’s his weight and overall ranking
There's a bit of info out there:

Class of 2026
U17 Greco national champ in 2023 (60 kg)
Originally from Tennessee, moved to PA in 2020 to attend McCort.

Not speaking to his mat prowess, but Sam also famously and adeptly called pbp in matches for Flo at the Southern Scuffle years ago as a little kid. He later teamed up with Centre County stud Jude Swisher (now at UPenn) and had a pretty successful wrestling podcast featuring Bo and others as guests.

What’s the consensus about the Herring commitment? Does this help or not effect efforts to bring in Bo and/or Jax?
Personal opinion. With the kids who will be committing to colleges on that team, none of them impact each other. The only one I could see having an impact on is Miller who may want to wrestle with Bo. Other than that, these kids have been on numerous teams and work out with so many different kids weekly. I think they're all mature enough, in wrestling anyways, that they're going to do whats best for themselves.

Sam is a tremendous wrestler (#20 on the big board right now) with a ton of potential and he is going to be a tremendous addition to the room from Day 1. Insanely hard worker but truly just lives and breaths the sport of wrestling.

He is at NLWC all the time and loves the team and the team loves him.

The Sam Herring pick up is extremely under the radar. I really think he is gonna win a PIAA State Title this season and next.

He's good, and he has a chance at this, but I'm not ready to say he will. Depends on how the weights shake out.

This year he'll likely have both Harer and Baum at his weight. Maybe Detar or Fanella too?

Regardless, nice pickup for the good guys.

Herring best wrestling is still ahead of him. I hear him and Messenbrink are very tight. Baum could be a problem for him as well as Harer. Herring probably majors Fanella.

Haakon Peterson (2026 AWA wrestler) visited PSU this past weekend. Willie has him #37 on the Big Board and projects him at 133

Doesn't seem to have a ton of national results in 2024 (he did win age level Fargo 4 times including U20 106 in 2023) He's at 120 in Willie's rankings now. Based on his pictures, 133 looks right, possibly 141 if he grows more.

Pretty sure he is an AWA guy which I love. I’ll take as many Askren kids at PSU as possible

Edit-Just realized you said he is an AWA guy

ahem, my son just won his first 6U novice tournament yesterday. when should we expect the full court press?
It’s been going on since he was 4. No one ever expects the full court press - it just is

When the phone rings and there is no one there when you answer... it is Bobby Telford with cold feet.

Also, congratulations to your son.
