PSU-only Recruits & Commits news

When does a college go after DT as head coach?
I imagine somebody has already inquired on his interest.
The Oklahoma State job will probably be opening up in the next few years. It will be interesting to see where they go for a coach.
Their fans are calling for nolf as an assistant.

Bad take. The kids you listed that he beat are ALL high level kids. Using his wins against very good competition as a reason why you aren’t sold on him seems a bit crazy. I think Bassetts talent is undeniable. My only concern is burnout. Wrestling is really really hard and waking up at 4:30am to do your first practice of the day as a middle schooler definitely makes me wonder if he will continue loving the sport like he does now. I sure hope that he does because he is a real talent and seems like a great kid as well

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, I cringe seeing their 5am workouts every morning. That and it seems every trip they make they have to get in workouts at a local club. Can’t even go to enjoy a college football weekend without getting a workout in.

They are elite level kids that probably have an entirely different mindset that I had as a kid. So I really shouldn’t judge. I hope they get all they want out of the sport, that it was all worth it to them and they are happy in life.

I have to wonder if that is normal even for that level of athlete? Or are they on the fast track to being burnt out by the time they hit college. Or are they just much more active on social media that it sticks out as not being normal?

I wonder that myself. I was never even close to being elite in any sport do I can’t relate at all.

Really? I don’t follow him too much on there. Umm… would it be wrong if I said I don’t care if he goes elsewhere? Lol
I mean if there’s room at PSU and a kid - even with all the success practically shouting at him - goes somewhere else, it’ll generally be a whatever for me. He’ll probably be watching across the mats a few years down the road as our guys get their hands raised.

Seems like he is playing the game. Not sure on the approach. Every thing he puts out has a different college on it.

He's had 3 really weird tweets lately -- this one (why only include one school when you're supposedly uncommitted?) + the one at McGowan (same) + the one at Welsh (future teammates, Go Buckeyes).

Trying to remember that teenagers often do dumb things that get over-interpreted by adults like me.

Or maybe "@mason_gibson1" is a Mineo burner account?

It's to grow followers. Followers=$ in the Social media NIL game.

The bassetts crew are top notch at this

This is sick in a way but I guess the game has changed. With NIL becoming a profitable thing, social media becomes part of it for athletes. It’s crazy to think college athletes are getting paid and will leave college far from in debit. This could even factor into recruiting for colleges and who they bring in. AJ Ferrari added so much excitement to the Oklahoma St program.

I agree ^^^^^ Bassett’s definitely do it right and gained a ton of followers in their young careers. I know young dads and kids in my area follow everything they do.

restlers will never get paid like the top end college football players do but I am curious how much Spencer Lee & the Blades sisters are making from Rudis.

Folkstyle is garbage, yet I’ve pretty much allowed my coaches to ruin my international freestyle career by ignoring injury by over pursuing goals in a style I think is essentially trash and now I’ll come back to get my 4th title in this garbage style. Imagine if he liked it how good he’d be, u funny Spencer
so is anyone tellIng me freestyle you dont get injuries??ROFLMFAO

I find it hard to believe OKST would go outside the family for a first-time college coach.

Smith's coaching tree includes Popolizio (NC State), Scott (UNC), Branch (Wyoming), Pendleton (Oregon State), Ward (Army), Lanham (Duke), Cody (Presbyterian), and Moore (recently American).

Plus they have Esposito and Perry already on staff, and Blake (former Stanford) only an hour away.
If Smith stays 5 more years and Oregon St. continues their improvement similar to this year the choice will be easy.

Unless UNC keeps having national finalists every year and Scott (or his wife) wants to return.

Maybe the "young dads" and other adult followers of the twitter feeds of adolescent wrestlers should at least wait until these junior high school phenoms start to shave. The hyper interest in 13 year old boys is getting a little creepy.

Scott would be excellent in an Okie State setting.
If I am a UNC wrestling booster (Koll), and I have no idea if UNC wrestling has big money boosters I do not want Scott leaving Chapel Hill.
Everybody has their personal favorites, but for me it would be a tough choice to leave the Chapel Hill, Raleigh Durham (research triangle) area for Stillwater. Not that Stillwater is a bad place, just I really like the Chapel Hill area.

Let's not forget Pat Pop, he's been the most successful Okie State grad at the coaching level and if he wants that job it would be hard to say no to him unless Smith ensures it gets handed down to Chris Perry. And honestly I think that is what's going to happen, the job is Perry's and it'll get arranged when John retires.

I live in Oregon now so I’m really happy with what Pendleton has done at Oregon State. They had a phenomenal national tournament. If or when Smith leaves I think Pendleton would be a really great choice. He is wonderful recruiter and it seems like kids love to wrestle for him. Scott is a good choice as well. He has done really well at UNC

DT is an amazing wrestler and has years left but I think he is going to be an even better coach. I also see potential for when JB hangs it up taking over Penn.

I think ok state is pat pops if he wants it but not sure he’s leave NC State.

If I were Pitt, I wait another year or two and then offer Cenzo a handsome contract. Let Stanford teach Cenzo the ins and outs then steal him away. Think he’d be a hell of a recruiter in Pa, particularly Central and Western PA.
Not sure Cenzo is at the point in his life where he wants to deal with everything that comes with being a college head coach, but that’s pure conjecture on my part.

It might be a much easier choice if your wife is from Oklahoma and an OSU alum, and decides she wants to go back home.

Not saying she has or will, but it's a distinct possibility.
