the air? I'm just hoping that the new station, whether AM or FM, will be much stronger than KQV was, and that we'll be able to receive the broadcast no matter what time of day the game is. Or if no one knows the new station, where would we be able to find that information? Thanks.

Been looking, but no word as yet. If we end up on some 1000 watt station from the outer suburbs, forget about hearing the night games. KQV is supposed to be coming back on the air in September, but at a reduced power and from what I hear their transmitter will be out in North Versailles. It will be basically useless to most of Pittsburgh if that's the case.

P.S. Did a little more research. KQV has been granted a license to operate at 5,000 watts with a non-directional signal (this is a good thing) during day time. At night, though the signal will be non-directional, they can operate only at 75 watts. Probably useless to most of the area at night, I would guess.

I hadn't heard that KQV was coming back on the air. I believe that the old transmitter location was in North Versailles, and I can't imagine that they could even reduce station broadcast power any more than they were at previously. Seemed as if the wind picked up only a little, we would lose the broadcast.
One would assume(yeah, yeah, I know) that PSU would want a strong flagship station in the Pittsburgh area since so many alums live in the area. And it wouldn't be as if there aren't any other sports beside football that would be broadcast the rest of the year.

Actually, their transmitter towers were in Ross Township in the North Hills. Previously they operated on a directional signal, which limited their coverage in some areas. They changed the pattern at night, which made it nearly impossible to pick-up in some areas. i don't know exactly when they will return, but recall hearing it would be in September. Let's hope the powers that be are able to secure a stronger signal for PSU sports. Don't count on it though.
