Over the years I bought into the narrative from FLO that there is no PSU style. That everyone wrestles their own style. Watching this match changed my opinion. It’s like Cael was the prototype. You can see aspects of all the great PSU wrestlers in this match. Mark Hall’s tilt is there. Nolf/RBY release when they let someone up. AB/DT ankle picks aplenty. The sheer composure while racking up a tech fall in the quarterfinals. Breaking someone with a crushing pace etc. Cael just showed how it could be done and opened the door to the next generation. P.S. I watched Cael compete at the 2001 US open. He was just this magic kid all the young athletes crowded around to watch. He made it look so easy. I was all about the greats from the 80’s and 90’s that were there. I stood next to Dan Gable! I did not really care about this new kid everyone was talking about. That is a moment I would like to have again.
