Does this era of dominance occur if PSU never joins the Big Ten? Would Cael take the job if we are in the ACC? Would blue chip recruits still come knowing they wouldn't be wrestling Iowa, tO$U, Minn? If the answer is "No" to these, do we owe part of this to Joepa?!

Sigh. Then does he get the blame for the crappy parts about being in this crooked conference that mainly caters to 2 schools.

Its about Cael and Pennsylvania wrestling.

The point about giving Joepa credit was a bit tongue in cheek, but the question still stands.

Zero impact. If we were in the 6-team ACC, we would have plenty of open dates to schedule the Iowas and Ohio States of the world -- and not be bothered with the Michigan States and Indianas.

The talent base remains the same.

I believe he does. Cael is able to do many things previous psu coaches could not. One in particular is recruiting the best PA talent. PA wrestlers were on college rosters throughout the country. Cael realized the goldmine surrounding State College.

It is an intriguing question. "What if's" rarely have black and white answers, so no absolutes from me...though Cael was attracted to the talent pool in PA and the opportunity to build a world class RTC. My thought is that NOT being in the premier wrestling conference may stymy recruiting a little, so it's possible, even likely, we wouldn't be experiencing quite the success. Doesn't mean we wouldn't be winning, but what we have is a perfect storm, and being in the B1G is part of that.

Penn State wrestling was always a sleeping giant. In the hotbed of HS wrestling and with a supportive fan base, PSU would be attractive destination for any coach. Toss in the contract he was offered and I think Big Ten vs Non-B10 would have been 4th on his list of priorities.

Giving JoePa a hand for something that happened over 2 decades ago seems a stretch.
