Any advice for a rookie? Might have attended once but want to maximize time w other commitments.

Event says 11:00 (approx). How much time is mingling, when/how long is the fun stuff (coaches talking, awards, videos), etc?

Any advice appreciated…

I am not sure either - PSWC site says 11:00 (approx). No clue. I don’t have any confirmation of my reservation so I don’t know.

You will come in to the conference center and need to register at the main desk. There will will the social hour beginning at noon in the hall and the luncheon room will open at 12:15.

As a rookie: nice event, though it was a bummer that NCAA rules kept the coaches away because of it being finals week—I hear Cael opens up some at these events, so I was sad to miss that. It’s incredible what support this team has: 625 strong at this event, and the club handing over almost an entire ”Iowa City Truax” bag to the program.

Sat with Donovan Ball’s crew, and enjoyed talking with them.

Seeing Andy Matter speak and the senior speeches were the highlights for me though. Thanks to all of you that had a hand in the event—I’ll be back!

Also, if you were there, didn’t Max & Carter on stage together make you think they’d make an awesome 70s Detective drama duo? I’d tune in every week!

yeah, max rockin the stache. show opens on netflix next week. carter wasn't too shabby either.

I had a great time! Loved the talks and getting to spend a little time with the wrestlers. Awesome event, I want to come every year now.
I think this was my 6th banquet. It's always great to be able to meet the wrestlers and their families.

I really enjoyed Andy Matter's speech after receiving his alumni award.

Listening to Max speak afterwards was great. He's very grateful for Cael, the PSU coaches, team and fans. Max said that he and his wife were in the process of closing on a SC house. He will be sticking around and working out with the NLWC.

I was a little disappointed that RBY didn't speak with the seniors or stay long to meet with fans after the banquet, but I realize he has other pressing issues in his life. He did go up with the seniors last year and spoke briefly, then Cael said they wanted him to come back.

All in all a great day!

Carter looked pretty cool. I wish I could pull off that look. My $10 says a certain poster on here who resides in Erie has been hitting the shops all morning for that same sweater.

For a bad wheel, Cater got a lot of rehab going back and forth to the stage.

PS I could make an Armani suit look like I'm wearing burlap.

Pshh. All you need to pull off any look is a little confidence. Just ask Carter.…Maybe the body of a world class athlete also helps. 🤷‍♂️

Yes--he actually has 2 more years of elligiblity, according to his dad. He says Donovan loves his team, and has no current plans to portal, but I could hear the disappointment in dad's voice when Truax came up.
Not being a dick, but if Donovan is staying he will be presented with an everyday opportunity to prove he is a superior 184 pounder compared to Bernie. If presented opportunities one should never be disappointed.

I think it's likely that this is Donovan's attitude as well. I hesistated to even mention the "disappointment" I noticed--but he didn't overtly express--because I didn't want this kind of attention on it. I was more going for empathy than unsolicited advice on the right approach to take w/ it. Just sayin'

Kinda being a dick. Some things are better off left unsaid/written.

Sisyphus says thanks for the opportunity!
Sissy pussies? That's for Iowa! Let them roll that rock. That's the only way their team will rock next year and tomorrow, and tomorrow, and tomorrow... Theirs is a tale told by two idiots, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.

Wow, taking the classical reference @82bordeaux started with and cranking it up a Shakesperian notch!
Happy If You Say So GIF

I've known Donovan since middle school and followed him through High School. He was a very good wrestler in HS and still is to this day. I bumped into him the week he committed to Penn State and asked him why Penn State since it would be a hard and unlikely road to being a starter (actually, I think I said something like, ugh, it's going to be tuff to find the mat up there". He said "I know, I'll probably never start, but I'll be on a National Championship Team and probably several of them". He was VERY happy with his decision to attend.
