Out of respect I'd like to say something. I know most people on this board do not know who Lou Michaels was, if you do not live somewhere in North Eastern, PA. But he was one of the best college football players all time. I do not remember the exact years he played, but he passed away at 80 years old.

If you could please allow me to say a few things and if you read thru you may be a little surprised.

He played for Kentucky and is in the College Football Hall of Fame. He finished high in the Heisman race and was the third overall pick in the NFL.

Was named a top 25 player All -Time in the SEC. He played with the Colts in SuperBowl Three against the Jets where his brother Walt was one of the Jets coaches. Lou remained close friends with Johnny U. thru there lives. He was an Iron Man playing DL, OL, and Kicker.

Please allow me just to share a few quick stories, that some may appreciate or find funny.

Lou was as tough as they come. The week of Super Bowl Three in Miami, he was at a bar with some teammates. Joe Namath strolls in with his fur coat on, came up to Lou and said we are going to kick your ass in SuperBowl Three. Even though Namath and the Jets won, he realized he made a huge mistake saying that to Lou, and rambling on how his team and certain players had no chance against them. Lou said we got Johnny U. and Lenny Moore. Namath was pretty much insulting them. Lou tried to take Namath outside and punch his face in. Namath and all his cocky words quickly went away. Lou sat by the door and said, for all your insults your not going to be able to play in the SuperBowl, when I get thru with you. Namath quickly started to try and apologize and bought them some drinks, just to make it out of there in one piece.

One more quick one.

Lou Michaels had a bit of a rivalry going, with Johnny Majors a Tennessee great who was actually at a Penn State game last year. My parents were at the Lions Den, the Friday night before the game, at the bar my dad was sitting there, right next to Johnny Majors. When my dad told him he grew up with Lou Michaels, Majors could not believe it. Majors said he never feared a player as much as Lou Michaels. Lou at Kentucky chased Majors all over the field and they exchanged a lot of words during there battles.

Here is where it gets funny. At the end of the season, Lou and Majors were invited to play at some College Football all star game. They ended up having to go on the same flight to the game, and had to sit right next to each other. Lou did not say a word to him the whole flight, as Majors grew increasingly scared. What happens next, they put the two of them up at the same hotel as roommates. They went on to become friends, but Majors went thru some real anxiety for a while.

Anyone or some old-timers that heard of Lou Michaels, please say a little something. I know this may have bored some people reading this, because you probably don't know who he was, but he was honestly one of the best College Football players there was.
