What chance does Purdue have today without OConnell and Jones both opting out? Purdue was playing up a notch to begin with and now they're playing without their top 2 offensive players. What a joke.

I'll take LSU and give the 14.5 points.

I'm not sure Purdue should be in this game. Yea they won their division, but the team playing today is not the that team.
21-0 LSU, early in 2nd qtr.
This could end up as a "to the woodshed" game

Can you imagine being a Purdue fan who spent a few $thousand to take their family to that game only to discover the opt outs?

College football is effed up.

O'Connell. Jones and Durham all opted out...that's 90+% of their offense. HC is gone and takes key assistants with him. The "Game HC" is the departed HC's brother who is gone after this game. It's tough enough to recruit football players to Purdue...this fiasco will make it even more difficult. Plus the B1G looks ridiculous after the beatdown. It was all very predictable, and the blame rests squarely on the shoulders of their idiot AD.

You're something else. I'm pretty sure that 99% of the board will be taking this game seriously.
I agree. They will be. Most here still pretend the bowls matter when we already know Georgia and TCU are playing for a title. But our guys are gonna get swag so sweet.

Yet you are in every thread for a bowl game spouting your nonsense. Just shut the hell up for the Rose Bowl. Go away permanently. Let everyone else enjoy the in game thread without your bull shit.
If only in bowl game threads when I'm mentioned or people say something unrelated to the game.
Since you really don't want me there I'll gladly post in it just to make your day even more miserable that most days.

But no in all seriousness I have no intention on posting in that game thread. I won't be home. I'll just comment afterwards if people overreact. Especially if we lose and they start rambling nonsense about firing Franklin. After this year he gets 2023 at the very least to best Michigan and/or Ohio State. I'll take 10-2 without beating them for a couple years before I get back on the fire him train.

College football is effed up.

Agreed. It is effed-up.

But keep in mind that the head coach was effectively an opt-out as well...and for big bucks.

I also saw where some assistant coaches bailed.

So the coaches in college football do what they feel is in their own best interests. None of them is turning down serious greenbacks or opportunities out of loyalty to their players, teams, and schools.

Therefore, the kids can't be blamed for doing the same now that they have some of the same liberty.

By the way, good call on your OP. Hope you cashed in.

I don't blame the kids. I blame the NCAA/rules.

It seems to me that both players and coaches have contracts. The player's contract involves a scholarship vs salary. It seems to me that the contracts should obligate the parties to participate through the entire season or else a breach of contract penalty will be imposed.

But the contract ends prior to the bowl game as the semester is over.

I have no problem with that idea...as long as the same standards are applied to both the coaches and the kids.

In the Cotton Bowl, Tulane giving USC everything they can handle. Tulane just got a safety and the ball back with 3:20 left down by 6.

If the semester is over how are you going to tell them they have to play if they're no longer enrolled? It doesn't make sense.
A financial penalty could be imposed for breach of contract. What do you think happens if everyday citizens breach a contract? Like exiting a lease agreement leaving a landlord without a tennant for a few months.

Give it a rest. It’s not professional ball and just because you are mad when kids sit out doesn’t mean it’s wrong.

I haven't watched any yet. I'll watch the Rose like I watch the Blue White game.
I'm watching the Cotton Bowl. Stadium looks full, Tulane players/fans are going crazy, and players/USC fans are somber. Don't they realize this was just like a spring game?

Seems like I missed a great ending. Hope ESPN puts and keeps replays of these up.

But they aren't breaching it. They fulfilled it. They finished the season and the semester. A bowl game is not on the season. It's a reward nothing more.

Imagine if it was a playoff game and they got the opportunity to prove they were the best team in the country how much bigger that game would have been.
