article just came out about 10 minutes ago, per Franklin, that Bates has been moved to tackle, with Palmer rotating with Wright at the other tackle spot. It did not say who would take Bates' guard spot but I would guess they would start Dowrey at that spot.
If anything happens to anyone, I would imagine next up would be Gonzales.
This might be a bit of a struggle, but it might be alright anyway...Limegrover is one hell of an O line coach, the best in the Big Ten in my viewpoint(Michigan is all fifth year NFL draft picks), so he could very well make it work.
It's clear now that they won't burn Fries shirt, no matter what happens. Last year I would have had a problem with it, but this year, in Limegrover I trust.

Thanks 21! Makes me appreciate a guy like Dowry more. He lost his starting spot but has continued to have a great attitude and now we really need him. He and DB Jordan Smith are two of my personal favorite veteran players this season.
You're welcome amigo. I think Coach Limegrover has done, and is doing, miracles with this group, and they are buying in 100%. As I said, if this happened last year with Hand, I would have been dead set against this philosophy, but with Limegrover, he has coached EVERYONE up, and I think what they set into motion in practice, will hopefully get the job done on the field. 53 then moves into the guard spot for this week, at least in that scenario...if they go with that scenario.

PP not only played every offensive snap against Iowa, he also played 100% of snaps against daO$U I believe.

In re-watching our o-line against Iowa, I came away impressed with Wright.
The sack is what stuck out while watching live, but Wright otherwise controlled the LOS. He's a mountain of a human being and the Iowa DE couldn't get any push on him.
Another thing that really helps Palmer and Wright is the respect the DEs have to give to the inside zone read. In other words, the Iowa DEs needed to control the edge and play disciplined football instead of just trying to speed rush to cause backfield disruption. Wright basically had no problem playing the Iowa DE straight up as he couldn't do anything to push Wright backwards. This helped set an even LOS for Barkley to find his own lanes. Not only that, but Wright could actually move on pulling plays and get to linebackers. They didn't want anything to do with him.
It's pretty amazing to think about the fact that we had a 6'7 345lbs tackle just sitting on the bench who was basically better than any Iowa offensive tackle I saw on Saturday night. Wright went from probably the biggest afterthought in the 2014 o-line class to maybe a pretty decent starter.

Regardless of their class you put the best available player out there.
Lets say this Fries may be better than anyone you had mentioned.
But the toughest decision in this situation do we burn his redshirt?
We burned one already on hte OL (even though the dividens are paying off)
The sack was 99% miscommunication (probably Wright's error) and 1% physical
The Iowa D - which is about as vanilla and "non-aggressive" as there is in the country - was an ideal scenario for Wright to play at OT
We will certainly need to wait and see how the OT situation plays out against other schemes
do you burn a kids R/S this late in the year, to be the third OT? We have 2 we should be OK with, (PP, CW) so now the only time we would need a third is if something happens to one of those 2 ( or both of course) during this game. So would you rather have a plan to get us out of this game (move an OG to OT and bring in an OG) or just throw a kid into the fire? I am for the former at this time. If one of the 2 starting OT goes down (and no one hopes that) and is done for the year, I would re assess my plan next week.
Think Phil had reported the only way they burn Fries RS is if he starts.
that sounds reasonable, that said I thought CW played pretty well for just getting thrown into the fire.
I actually graded Chasz out to a B plus last week vs Iowa. A bit higher than the guy over on TOS, but I think even he had him at a B minus.
Perhaps we should realize that the only people that burn Fries, are Pitt grads. So, on that thought, do not burn Fries.
You suggest that a 6-3 235 back up tight end could play tackle? I guess you are joking, but you are taking the Hoosier defense far too lightly. They are improved.
93 is tough, 17 is no slouch, and 91 is good too. They won't fold up, we need to bring our A game.
Wasn't joking, but didn't express what I was saying too well. In my head I was picturing more use of two-TE formations (max protect) and things like that to shield our backfield if we find ourselves putting 64 or 76 out there in an emergency. You are right, Hoosiers shouldn't be underestimated (or Knights/MSU).
DAMN!! Palmer injured.. now I'm glad coaches started to build more than just "depth on paper" behind our OTs.
Agree - not sure the point of RS when you don't have players. We are winning NOW. Get he best out there regardless.
Not sure 77 is doing that well at T. He is a G trying to play T. Barkley is going to get hurt bad if we don't fix this.
I've been around a while, but I've NEVER seen Beaver Stadium erupt in massive cheers when a true freshman OT enters the game. Any chance that might happen to Fries this year (MSU)?

Now, that does not mean he couldn't shirt NEXT YEAR, but we now need him starting.
