There system in the Ryan Day era seems to use a QB to 'play catch' with their stable of top receivers, which works 90% of the time. Top defenses, like Nebraska, Penn State, and Michigan, give them trouble, and the game is decided by either the opposition having a far inferior and incapable offense (more so with Nebraska) or bouncing balls or calls going their way (Penn State). Pretty much the entire OSU team got surprised, didn't respond, and folded. A truly star quarterback would be a bonus, and maybe get them over the top, but I think many of such players would fall asleep or get into bad habits simply playing catch during 90% of their games.
That same system obliterated Clemson's defense last year, and put 56 on a top-10 Michigan team in 2019. I don't think that's Day's system. I think that's a function of OSU having O-line problems this year.
