Rasheed’s the perfect example of why to never quit or give up on something. He lost two wrestle offs to Cutch and Cassar. Wasn’t able to dress with the team. He was sent to open tournaments. Got hurt. Overcame injuries. Cutch out for the year and now here he has the opportunity to be wrestling in March with the way he is wrestling and Cassar losing. All this while no one thought he had a chance and was being overlooked. Pulling for the guy big time! Would love to have him come speak to my guys.

Speak to your guys?

I'd like to have him whisper in Kollin Moore's ear. From the side. On the mat.

Cassar beat Boykin (Chattanooga) 9-7 in SV, Shak pinned him in 27 seconds. Will be interesting tonight how Shak does against Holschlag since he beat Cassar.

I always thought he had a shot!!! He’s proving it now time to go all the way!!

His biggest problem always seemed to be pulling too much weight and showed it in his gas tank. I'm happy to see him at 197. I think he could do very well at the weight. He is a potential bonus point machine.

He will be I’m just happy to see him getting it done. There was disappointment he didn’t stay home (which in retrospect I’m glad he didn’t) and it looked like he was proving people right in regards to his PSU decision. Glad to see him silence what ever naysayers he had left.

Lightning in a bottle? Need to see a couple full matches, of course I am fine with the 1st period pins.

This will be very interesting.. if Rasheed comes out tonight and just smokes the guy who Cassar lost to, is he the guy the rest of the year? Do they at least put him out there for a couple dual matches to see how he does against big 10 competition? I think it is safe to say it is now he and Cassar vying for the spot.. and that Matt likely is out of the picture (sad to say)...

Whatever round it would be, hope Moore loses earlier.
If a Buckeye fan were available for the wager I would be so willing to wager more than i should that if our 197 pounder finishes ahead of the Nature Nuts' 197 pounder we win the title.

If he beats the kid without it appearing to be a miracle win I would think he gets a look. I know the staff has been overly intrigued for longer than just this season about what they could possibly have in both of these kids.

Rasheed has beaten three guys in Flo's top 20 alone in this tournament and handily: #11 (Williams, 41 second pin) #14 (Boykin, 27 second pin) and #18 (Seely, 12-2 major) He's got #17 (Holschlag) in the finals. I would say that four top twenty wins in a row should not only earn him strong consideration for Outstanding Wrestler of the tournament but also a starting spot for the next couple of duals against Michigan (#12 Beazley) and Michigan St.

No lightning in a bottle at all if you followed long enough you know this is who he is
Can only go by what I have seen when in a PSU singlet. Want to see some full matches. Three pins in the 1st period is lightning in a bottle so to speak. Don't get me wrong I love it and certainly hope it continues.

His loss to Darmstadt with the injury was 8-4. Darmstadt got majored by Mattiace but majored Miklus 9-0...so I'd say he's in the AA ballpark. So is Cassar, so is (was Cutch).

Let's just say, though...that pinning power will creep up nicely no matter where he is in a bracket.

Very tough call between him and Cassar, really. Let's see what happens tonight. I'll admit, Cassar is a bit of a puzzle on the mat sometimes....seeming not aware. But that is also likely experience.

Tonight will have a lot to say. Pressure is on Rasheed to show it, and if the lights are on, what will he do?

It is hard- I want to see them all succeed! You have a fifth year guy so close to AA, and 2 underclassmen who have been working hard to get their shot. I know kids come to PSU knowing the competition they will face, but with that, it is amazing how many out of state kids still have the faith in themselves and the program to come here at a considerable cost.

And the lights went on......

......and so did Rasheed.

If we need points in the bonus form.....they will come from Rasheed. He has to be the guy regardless of a wrestle off.

I think Rasheed earned his spot to start! what an impressive and exciting tournament against good opponents. He majored 2 guys and there was plenty in the tank.

After 3 first period falls against ranked wrestlers along with 2 major decisions, regardless of any wrestle off results, Shak should get nod next weekend on the Michigan road trip.

People seem to forget that when Shakur was in the lineup at 165 in 2015-16, he built major leads against McFadden of VT and Rodrigues of Ilinois before gassing out and ultimately losing late. Both were AA in 2016. He was also up against Wilson of Stanford. His other losses that year were to Morelli by a point, Logan Massa 5-3, Preisch 3-1 and Josh Shields 5-4. He's a damned good wrestler.

and he had the Illinois kid decked in the first period with the cradle. i mean flat ... he got royally screwed that bout. I guess the ref didnt want the building to implode since it was only a few minutes after Nolf pinned Imar

Rasheed at 165 a few years ago, and the his performances mentioned above by @matter7172, are etched in my mind. I can't believe the way he looks at 197.

just a simple reminder that every wrestling ref I've spoken with (which is several 100; probably more), in which we've discussed pins, has never once indicated that anything like what's mentioned in the quote ever enters their mind. And on the flip side, I have 100s, perhaps 1,000s of experiences where fans, coaches, and other wrestlers are certain that a pin was missed (and not bashful about stating as much), where the pinning area was 1/4" or so above the mat, or the pin was not held long enough (which is not a factor in college). The ref is in a far, far better position to determine whether or not there was a pin than is anybody else at the match.

I'll also add there are some situations where a ref is almost certain that a pin has been accomplished, but due to how the wrestlers are positioned it is impossible to determine that. You can't call something based on what you think likely is taking place. The ref owes it to the defensive wrestler, and to the integrity of the sport, that they can determine 100% that the criteria for a pin has been met before calling a pin.
