This past week, I met a diehard Iowa Wrestling fan (alumni) at a National Conference for work. Very knowledgeable and passionate about his team and wrestling in general. Talked extensively about our teams obviously and he was just an all around classy guy, added college wrestling fans in general should just band together (regardless of team affiliations) There aren't as many of us as football fans but we truly might be the most passionate.

I feel he represents the vast majority of Hawkeye fans (who you can put a name and face) rather than a message board. Very complimentary of Cael. Not just on his athletic accolades but because "PSU kids just seem to be very classy and good kids" Doesn't anticipate Cael's run is ending any time soon (he knows what PSU has in the greyshirting pipeline) but hopefully there are more titles that need to be settled Saturday night rather than Friday night. He did defend the "Iowa style" by saying Iowa just has more defensive wrestlers than PSU haha and cited ADS and Lee as examples of consistently attacking. He was a good like I mentioned so I didn't really criticize too much.

As for 2020, he said he's very optimistic about winning but at the same time, used 2018 OSU as a example to never say another team is the favorite over a Cael team. Thinks it'll likely be settled Saturday night in dramatic fashion. When I asked him if he hates PSU because of their success, he said it does get irritating for sure but all in all, he would love it if Iowa was winning like that so he can't be too mad. Historically, one team dominates for a long string anyways.

Would've pulled up the Nickal-Brooks spadle on my phone to see if I could get a real life GFY.
True story, my first post ever on Hawkeye Report was this:

Wasn’t feeling very neighborly that day, I guess...

That said, I agree with Mcscorely, RL Iowa fans, writ large, are lovely people in my limited experience.

I only know a couple hundred really well, but closer to a couple thousand casually and this has not been my experience at all. ;)
Interesting, as I’ve experienced a large number too, and exceptions aside, the majority have been great to talk with. Not passing-in-the-hall kind of conversations, but sit-and-have-a-drink kind of conversations. Mine have been in hotels, at CHA (B1Gs only), and out and about at B1Gs and NCAAs, maybe it’s not the same circles? Never been to an Iowa/Iowa St. dual for example, where I’m sure it’s different.

I post some of this for fun. My dad, brother in law, and son are all Iowa fans. My wife is from a long line of Iowa fans, so believe me when I claim to understand the mentality. I watch wrestling on Flo with a group of friends comprised of three Iowa fans, two ISU fans (plus myself), one Mizzu fan, and one Northern Iowa fan. We also attend many events together or some motley crew version of our group depending on who can get away. Our group lost my best friend to Cancer and he was all things Iowa wrestling. I gave his Eulogy in a Hawkeye Wrestling Club shirt as he demanded this happen. I wouldn't even enjoy wrestling without my Hawkeye people but they are still insufferable dicks I just happen to love. My PSU fandom may have actually started by my desire to beat them somehow/someway. My dad has been battling an illness which will eventually claim his life and I take him to Iowa City often so he can watch his team push and he can yell for stalling and all of that crap. I guess I do love my Iowa fans but I refuse to like them- maybe there is something wrong with me:{

Thanks for sharing. This is along the lines of what I have been saying for years. I'm glad you had a good visit with the "enemy". I would enjoy doing the same thing

I met the entire Gopher fan base and they both seemed like decent guys- they talked about some husker/gopher hybrid fan who they didn't speak very highly of, but who knows?

I tried not to, but I had to ROTFLMAO at this post. Sorry jammenz but you are like Major Burns from MASH. You invite being laughed at and it would be impolite not to laugh at you.

You do know that after a long run as Worst Fanbase Ever, Iowa was edged out by PSU in the latest online poll.

People love losers. In the latest poll you were the most loved poster on BWI and (the late) HR board (RIP).
