As a PF/SF who measures in at at least 6-foot-4 and more than 220 pounds, University Heights (Ohio) athlete Tyreke Smith has the makings of a Division I basketball prospect, as that's the sport he's played most of his life.

He might be garnering more recruiting attention in a different sport, however, one that he hasn't played since the seventh grade and that's football. Smith already holds six scholarship offers on the gridiron and he's hearing from even more schools who are continuing to evaluate him. Penn State is one of those teams. Smith made his first unofficial visit – to any school, for either sport – when he checked out PSU May 21 and he recaps that at the link.

Smith is a unique prospect to keep an eye on. He has a lot of the physical tools coaches want, but they just don't have any film to sample yet. As he camps this summer and as his junior season moves ahead, it'll be interesting to see how many more offers follow. He's hearing from Alabama, Michigan, Michigan State among others, so coaches know about him, just waiting to see more.

PSU might get a couple previews, as Smith intends to be at Bowling Green satellite camp June 13. He holds a BG offer, while PSU coaches will also be in attendance. Smith is also eyeing a return visit to PSU again later this summer for camp, but that's not set. The visit definitely piqued his interest, and he's going to do what he can to impress PSU coaches enough to earn the offer. Still has some work to do, though.
