Refs in TCU game

dont know the rules of football.

Actually they do. When the kicking team touches the ball on the punt it's technically called an illegal touching and becomes the receiving teams ball, but the receiving can still pick it up and advance the ball. The ball doesn't become "downed" until secured by the kicking team.

So if the kicking team touches the ball first but not secured, the receiving team can still pick it up and advance it. Even if they were to fumble it they would still retain possession because of first touching of the kicking team.

That's why kicking teams are taught to pick the punt up and hand it to the official. Don't just touch and go.

That's why TCU accepted the penalty to get the first down.

Correct. But that's not what they ruled initially .... they ruled TCU ball after they recovered even when they CLEARLY touched the ball first.

True but they corrected themselves after sorting it out. Plus the Ref that signaled the TCU ball may not have seen the initial touching.

All in all they figured it out correctly when they conferred. And that's what we hope for in the end.

If that ref didn't see the touching of the ball there is no way he should be officiating a football game. He was 5 feet away

The fact they had to review it is pathetic and embarrassing... but yes. They did eventually get it right

They just blew a TD review where TCU fumbled but they called it a TD.

I didn't see the game, but tcu beat oklahoma state in stillwater, 44-31. pitt's disaster against oklahoma state last week looks even worse now. Nothing is really working for pitt, is it?
