Renteria out at Nebbie

Or maybe he's willing to sacrifice to go to Iowa because he wants to be part of that history-making squad that has won zero titles in the past eight years. #JammiesStillDoesntGetIt
Renteria could've gone to Minnesota for no money but one Jammen team was enough.

Did you know you have to go all the way back to 2000 to find the last Iowa championship team that did not need a double recruiting class to achieve that level of success.:D:);)

Cidhawkeye, in your sanctimonious opinion, is it too early to call Brans names for recruiting over somebody? Please provide a message board conscience for us.

I am more in line with booing one of the states finest because he is going to a rival. It wasn't a courtesy afforded to Teske. Want to talk conscience?

Man, you guys never get tired of fabricated nonsense, do you?
What else can he say? All of the evil Cael arguments are slipping away as TNT have exceeded anything they could have trashed Cael for....PD3, Austin DeSanto, then Renteria. I am sure it messes with their minds trying to justify all the hypocrisy.

I wasn't at either place, but you were apparently at both. Congrats for your dedication to the sport.

However, my question was about whether we should point out the hypocrisy of those wanting Brands to get Renteria back, or should we wait until it happens? But, then, you knew that.

The whole Lee booing thing is hilarious. It's been discussed ad nauseum. Lee exhibited Gilman-like behavior towards his opponents at states for a few years, including a post-match face mush of one of his pre-finals opponents, and people were not happy with him. The booing of Lee was related to that and had nothing to do with his going to Iowa.

Nearly 2 years later and it's still hard to explain to our friends in the good state of Iowa, that Exeter high school is in the same district as Hershey, the home of the PIAA championships...while the WPIAL is the entire way across the state to the west.

You'd think someone would consider that.

Turk you know I love you but you are out of your element here. But I also will disagree with a couple of our BWI posters. I was in the crowd and have been many times for stateS. (Can't remember the last time I wasn't)

The boos started in the 2nd period because Spencer was starting his ass off while trying to hold off DeSanto from pulling off the biggest upset most in the crowd had ever seen. There may have been a few here and there that had different causes - central PA fans or people turned off by Spencer going to Iowa or his disrespecting DeSanto the year before in somebody's opinion - but the crowd reacted no differently than I've seen many times before. I don't care who you are, you're getting boo'd in that situation.

Spencer and/or some of his supporters got a bit butthurt about it and it became a far bigger deal than it was. Which is understandable given competitiveness and the loss of that legacy (undefeated 4 timer is rarefied air in PA). To be honest it would be be a far better look to have a bit more Gilman in that situation. Which I'd expect he does now and that is a good thing IMO.

Here's Lee vs Desanto 2016. Go to 9:25 mark and watch the end. I think it's easy to see why a lot of people were pulling for DeSanto and/or happy to see Lee lose the following year. The shove of the neck as DeSanto tried to congratulate him was particularly bad sportsmanship. In hindsight, I guess that was a big tell that he was headed to Iowa.

That wasn't the only thing Lee did in that vein at PIAAs from what I've been told. It was a lot of things added up that had people a little tired of the antics and happy to see him get knocked off.

I watched the match in 2017 live and don't recall any significant booing. Certainly it was nothing like Jimmy Carr heard in the 1973 PIAAs when he was running from Larry Kepp.

I just watched it again and the only real booing I heard was when Lee pretended to fiddle with his shoelaces to delay getting back to center at one point in the third period. None when he was introduced or at any other time during the match. The whole "booing" thing seems to be much ado about nothing.

Hmmm, not sure the video lives up to your description. Was expecting a clearer display of unsportsmanship. I'll defer to those more familiar with Lee's public conduct as a HS wrestler, but this clip isn't particularly damning IMO.

Congrats to Iowa Jammen for the successful hit and run hijack.

But this logical explanation goes not support Iowa being the center of the wrestling universe and people just booed him for choosing Iowa over PSU.

There is definitely a large contingent that strictly watch HS wrestling and could care less about what college he choose. Of the few detractors some were probably booing because of the perceived stalling and feeling like he was trying to protect that 0 instead of wrestling hard the full match (again perceived). Some in cobb country don't want to accept that. It HAS to be about them.

I was there. Farm Show Arena in 73. Hard to recall much since it was early childhood, but as I do recall, Kepp chased Jimmy Carr all over the mat, and the boos were thunderous. I also recall the clear smell of cow patties, and wonder to this day, why in the world they held any kind of sporting event in that manure pasture.

Jerry White gave Ed Neiswander the business that day to, 14-2(Jerry became a future PSU All American along with Al Fisher, both won championships in the Harrisburg $hit house that day).

I was there, too. It was my senior year of high school. And both White and Fisher won against Lower Dauphin wrestlers, two of three consecutive Lower Dauphin wrestlers in the finals - Glenn Hall of McKeesport edged Tom Mutek 4-3, Fisher beat Mark Stauffer 18-7 with what seemed like an endless series of duck unders and White turned the tables on "Easy Rider" Neiswender, riding the rider.

I sat next to some Lower Dauphin folks at this year's PIAAs. Lower Dauphin remains champion-less to this day. 1973 was the last year of single class championships for PA.

I was coached by both Ed and Frank Neiswender in the mid 90s at Milton Hershey. I remember one day "taking it easy at practice", just trying to coast through. My punishment was having to simply escape from Ed after practice was over. I was 189 and probably had 10 lbs on him.

My practice ended 45 minutes after everyone else went home, not because I had escaped but because he didn't want his dinner gwtting cold!!

Ed and Frank were great coaches, but even better people

As you went out and filled two weight classes with transfers last year!

One has something to do with the other? Oh, wait a minute. Never mind. I forgot who I was responding to. HerkHawl. The Hawk never with a point.

Anyhow. This year will the 19th year in a row a Hawk recruited class has failed to win an NCAA wrestling team championship.
