Football REPORT: Penn State's Andy Kotelnicki to interview for West Virginia job

Valuing an education isn't a reason to return. He can make his money and still get a degree assuming he doesn't have done in 3 years.

I think it's selfish on us to want them back. Both are ready.
How do we know his family values education? He is a Parks and Tourist Major.....doesn't scream academics to me.

Yes, only one: Mike Yurcich who was fired during his 3rd year on the job.

Andy may want to consider that the grass is not always greener in a head coaching job. Joe Moorhead lasted two years as the head guy at Mississippi State. Ricky Rahne's record is much less than spectacular at Old Dominion.
Coaches don’t look at it that way, until the fail, they believe they can turn things around.

Plus, they'll make tons mo money. Neal Brown was making $3.2m per year (Purdue $4m, NC $5m) just in salary (plus radio shows and NIL). Andy was making $1.6 at PSU. WVU will give him at least a five-year contract meaning the total compensation will be in the $20m+. You just don't know if you are going to get that opportunity again. This is generational money if managed correctly. Your grandkids will never have to wonder where the next meal will come from or how to pay for their electric bill.

You and the others above are right. The considerations you mention will outweigh any grass-is-not-always-greener argument.

I've read that JoMo is very happy at Akron. He's making north of $600k with very little pressure helping young men mature into adults. He got $7m just in the buyout at Mississippi State. And again, this is just salary. They make a ton doing public appearances, radio shows, and endorsements.

But can Andy recruit ?

AK’s name has already been named on a bunch of Head Coach openings. His name is one mentioned for the UNC job. Get used to it!! I think Nick Saban had like 7 offensive coordinators during the 11 years that Franklin has been at PSU. Sign of the times!!
Everyone should look on the bright side. This might be the first opening in years for which JF wasn't named a leading candidate

The elephant in the room here is that maybe AK wants out. If he’s interviewing, he wants the job. If he wants this one, he wants others. If he wants out, he’ll get a head coaching job. Hopefully he lands somewhere with a good hockey team so he can drive the Zamboni.

I mean the guy was an OC for a single season and scored zero TDs against OSU.

If he interviews then send him packing at the end of the season
Man, I would have agreed with this sentiment even 3 years ago, but I don't anymore. In the world of disloyalty; firings, transfer portal, lawsuits, conference expansion, NIL....you gotta go get yours now. I don't like it any more than the next guy, but the college game is mirroring the pro game now. You get a chance to be a HC, make about $20M even for underperformance, you go. If WVU wants AK and Franklin even cares about AK as a person, he'd say "you gotta go"

yeah...I really don't know why "I want more money" is such a hard concept for people to understand. It is more money, by a long shot, plus the ability to run your own show. As a young guy, I wanted all that too. Today, I want to make decent money and to be left alone. I am happy to take a little less for the peace of mind.

I would not be surprised if Allar and Singleton come back. Allen would not be drafted, so I would guess that he will return.
I doubt Singleton is coming back….not sure about Allar, but my guess is he will be gone too.

I think Drew’s case is a difficult one to gauge. Neither going pro nor returning would surprise me. IMO based off his draft stock now, I’d return but that’s just me.
the list of QBs above Allar is unimpressive:
  1. S. Sanders Colorado
  2. Cam Ward, Miami
  3. Jalen Milroe
  4. Carson Beck
  5. Garrett Nussmeier
  6. Dillon Gabriel
  7. Kurtis Rourke
  8. Jaxson Dart

Of these, I think Sanders and Ward may be better. Others that are iffy are Beck, Milroe, Gabriel, and Dart. The rest, no way I'd draft them over Allar. In fact, I'd take Allar third behind Sanders and Ward. The rest have some major challenges from size to arm strength for the NFL. If Allar enters the draft, he'll wow the scouts at the combine.

right now, I am betting he comes back. He's only 20 years old.

Would think it also depends on how far they go this year , whether there is ample NIL $$ available to keep him? , and..who will be returning next year ? Including his OL and whatever WR they can pick up in the portal..

I agree with a lot of your analysis, I haven't watched too much of Sanders and Ward, but they have both produced a ton in their conferences. If you believe in those guys, Allar would be 3rd on my board. However, I wonder how tall Ward actually is and I wonder about Sanders' arm strength. Allar can make every throw, it comes down to consistency and how fast he processes.

From a pure football perspective, it does not make sense for Allar to come back to PSU if PSU doesn't improve the WR room...Whether that means he declares or transfers to a program that can help him show his talent is a whole other question.
